SAD activists fired at by miscreants
Nakodar, December 19
Two SAD activists, identified as Gurpreet Singh and Avtar Singh of nearby Fatehpur village, escaped unhurt when some armed miscreants opened fire at them, near Talwan yesterday evening. Both activists were returning to their village on a bike. They had gone to attend a party meeting summoned by Akali MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala in Talwan when the incident happened. The Police has registered a case. — OC

Shops burgled
Nakodar, December 19
Two Shops were reportedly burgled in Nakodar last night. The burglars entered Doaba Auto Electricians and Vikram Submersible Centre after breaking the locks and took away valuable goods worth lakhs of rupees from the shops. The Police has registered a case. — OC

Helpline for women
Nawanshahr, December 19
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dhanpreet Kaur, launched a women helpline to curb the menace of eve-teasing and harassment. Girls can register complaints regarding eve-teasing and harassment on telephone number 88721-23100. Kaur also sought the co-operation of general public in tackling the cases of crimes against women. — OC
