Tribune News Service

Amritsar, December 7
Punjab Industry Minister Anil Joshi today said the state government would unveil its new industrial policy to promote trade and industry in 2013.

Talking to the mediapersons after inaugurating Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX), Joshi said the state government would be implementing single-window system to give a fillip to the industry. Under the policy, all the works related to the industry will be done under a single roof while the entire record will be put online. He said the new system would get rid of corruption while saving precious time of traders. He said the state government would give hospitals and hotels the status of industry, adding that proper arrangements would be made to provide industrialists land on lease.

He said the state government is already holding talks with the Centre to extend the East-West Freight Corridor up to the Attari border. He said a “land bank” will also be set up in Kandi area to promote the industry.

Talking on the PITEX fair, Joshi said the event has brought closer the traders from Punjab and Pakistan, adding that the government has issued visas to 1,000 Pakistan businessmen for the PITEX this time.

He said the governments of India and Pakistan must initiate measures to boost bilateral trade through land route so that the full potential of the Integrated Check Post in Attari could be tapped. The fair is witnessing participation by nine countries this year, while there are 350 exhibitors in 11 categories.
