Kin of ‘murdered’ woman stage dharna

Tarn Taran, December 4
The parents of Kanwaljit Kaur (30), who was allegedly poisoned to death by her husband and in-laws, and their other relatives staged a dharna in front of the SSP office here today. They also blocked road traffic demanding the arrest of the accused.

Kanwaljit Kaur was allegedly poisoned to death and a case under Section 304 B of the IPC was registered by the Goindwal Sahib police on October 29.

Baljinder Singh, husband of the deceased, Jaspal Singh, father-in-law, and Veer Kaur, mother-in-law, residents of Khadur Sahib, have been booked in the case.

Baljinder Singh has been arrested by the police.

The residents organised a march in the town and staged a dharna in front of the SSP office and later blocked road traffic by staging a dharna at the Chabal-Amritsar bypass.


EARLIER STORIES

Gurwinder, brother of Kanwaljit Kaur, while talking to mediapersons, alleged that the police was sheltering the accused.

The protesters also presented a memorandum to the district police authorities.

Ranbir Singh, SP (Traffic), when contacted, said the matter was under investigation by Rashpal Singh, SP (Headquarters), and it was due to this that the accused were not arrested. — OC
