SGPC clears Punjabi movie: The SGPC has written a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to clear Punjabi film “Sadda Haq” as there was “nothing objectionable” in it. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the SGPC panel which watched the movie had submitted its report to him. He said the censor board should give a green signal to the movie without any delay.

‘Remains’ of 1857 martyrs found: Historian Surinder Kochchar claimed to have detected corpus of martyrs of the 1857 freedom struggle in Kallianwala Khu, now Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj, in Ajnala. Though there is no official confirmation about the findings, the researcher said remains of over 200 freedom fighters were discovered during the digging of the spot this morning.

Dancer injured in firing at marriage: In an incident of trigger-happy “baratis” playing with the lives of people in an inebriated condition, “congratulatory” gunshots fired by some youths at a marriage party in Khachra village of Jaitu sub-division last evening left a 20-year-old woman member of a dance party seriously injured. The victim has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital. The police has registered an attempt to murder case against Navdeep Singh, a relative of the bridegroom.

Man killed over property dispute
: A man was allegedly killed by his brother over a property dispute at Mahesari Sandhuan village in the district on Tuesday. Police sources said Jalaur Singh was allegedly killed by Beant Singh with a sharp-edged weapon when he went to irrigate his fields on the outskirts of the village.

: Sri Guru Teg Bahadur National Integration Chair, Punjabi University, Patiala, in collaboration with London-based Shaheed Nanak Singh Foundation on Tuesday organised the Fifth Shaheed Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture on national integration here. Dr JS Grewal, former Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, delivered the main lecture.
