Essay writing, declamation, painting competitions held

The Punjab Energy Development Agency in collaboration with the district Education Department organised essay writing, declamation and painting competitions on the topic of "Uses and benefits of renewable sources of energy" at Government Senior Secondary School here. Students from different schools participated in the competitions.

Woman, son booked for dowry

Manjinder Singh and his mother Sukhwinder Kaur, residents of Pandori Gola village, 6 km from here, have been booked under Section 498-A of the IPC by Sarai Amanat Khan police for demanding dowry.

One arrested with pistol, cartridges

Akash Kumar, a resident of border township Bhikhiwind, has been arrested for possessing a country-made pistol along with two cartridges.

Essay writing, declamation, painting competitions held

Nawanshahr, December 2
The Punjab Energy Development Agency in collaboration with the district Education Department organised essay writing, declamation and painting competitions on the topic of "Uses and benefits of renewable sources of energy" at Government Senior Secondary School here. Students from different schools participated in the competitions.

In the essay writing competition, Sukhwinder Kaur (GSSS, Nawanshahr) bagged the first prize, Anshu (GMS, Sloh) second, and Rajeshwari (GSSS, Nawanshahr) third.

In the painting competition, Arti (GMS, Sloh) came first, Sanjana second and Priya Chauhan (GSSS, Nawanshahr) third. In the declamation competition, Arti (GSSS, Nawanshahr) bagged the first prize, Amanpreet Kaur second and Mannu Bali third.

District Education Officer (DEO) Amrik Singh, S.K. Sharma, Senior Manager, PEDA, Principal Dinesh Kumar, and Surinder Pal Agnihotri, District Science Supervisor, mobilised the students for spreading awareness about the use of renewable sources of energy.

Woman, son booked for dowry

Manjinder Singh and his mother Sukhwinder Kaur, residents of Pandori Gola village, 6 km from here, have been booked under Section 498-A of the IPC by Sarai Amanat Khan police for demanding dowry.

Manjit Kaur, daughter of Tarsem Singh, resident of Mianpur village, victim in the case, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the accused had been harassing her for dowry and had been torturing her.

Manjit Kaur was married to accused Manjinder Singh on August 10, 2006.

Daljit Singh Dhillon, DSP, conducted an inquiry into the allegations levelled by the victim.

One arrested with pistol, cartridges

Akash Kumar, a resident of border township Bhikhiwind, has been arrested for possessing a country-made pistol along with two cartridges.

A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against him.

In another case, the Patti police arrested Jagveer Singh and Sahib Singh Saba, residents of Dasuwal village, 40 km from here, and recovered 294 gm heroin from them.

A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered, the police said. The recovered consignment is said to be worth Rs 1.45 crore in the international market.
