Traders cry foul over slow movement of parcels
Ludhiana, December 2
With the mercury plummeting in the region and the demand for woollen and hosiery items increasing in the entire northern and eastern regions, hosiery manufacturers and traders in the city are sore over the slow movement of packages booked through the Railways for various destinations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and the North-East.

Assn begins drive for adoption of stray dogs

In collaboration with city artistes, the Sarabha Nagar Market Association has started a campaign to appeal to welfare associations in the city to adopt stray dongs. City-based artists have created cartoons with messages about adoption of dogs for the purpose.

Mandi Board fails to complete renovation work in stadium

The Punjab Mandi Board has failed to complete the assigned work of installing canopies in certain blocks and renovation of toilets and replacement of broken chairs at the Guru Nanak Stadium, the venue of kabaddi final and the prize distribution function of the ongoing third World Kabaddi Cup, scheduled for December 15.

Officials discuss arrangements
Ludhiana, December 2
To make fool-proof arrangements for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on December 8, a meeting of government departments was held today at the Circuit House. The meeting, attended by higher-ups from various departments, was jointly convened by Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari and Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh.

Woman ends her life
Ludhiana, December 2
A 28-year-old woman, Sandeep Kaur, committed suicide by hanging herself from a hook in the ceiling of her room here last evening. A case under Section 304 B of the IPC has been registered against the victim's husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law by the PAU police station.

Govt should provide market for pulses, say experts

While the Punjab Government is emphasising the cultivation of pulses in the state, pulses’ breeder suggest the government has to make efforts to provide a market for pulses to promote its cultivation under the diversification of crops.

Police redresses 102 complaints

Under the guidance of Ishwar Singh, Commissioner Police, around 102 complaints were sorted out by a panel of police officials, including Assistant Commissioner Police (ACP) North Swapan Sharma, Dharampal, SHO of the Salem Tabri Police Station, Surinder Mohan, SHO of Kotwali, Vinod Kumar from Division Number 4 and Rajesh Thakur, in charge of the Jagatpuri Chowki here today.

Cong workers booked for pasting PM’s pictures on 108 ambulances
Mandi Ahmedgarh, Dec 2
The police has booked Congress activists under section 3 of the Punjab Public Property Defacement Act and arrested some of them after they pasted pictures of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 108 ambulances. The suspects were, however, released on bail.

3 booked for presenting fake papers in court
Ludhiana, December 2
Acting on a complaint lodged by Ranjit Kumar, Zone Judge, Special Court, Ludhiana, a case under sections 193, 199, 200, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120 B, IPC, has been registered against three persons, who, after presenting fake documents in the court, got a person released on bail on November 26, 2012.
