Parents are worried a lot as children are more vulnerable to the radiation from the cellphone towers. Vehicles parked at the entrance to Nehru Park in Sector 22 are a hurdle for the disabled The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation boasts of setting up 1,600 neighbourhood parks and greenbelts across the city, but it has failed to consider the plight of the disabled, as most of the parks are not disabled-friendly. Even a number of markets in the city and other public places lack the provision of ramps for the disabled.

Three special trains chug to manage rush of candidates
Chandigarh, December 2
Long queues of passengers at the ticket counters on the Chandigarh railway station on Sunday Three special trains chugged off between Chandigarh and Ambala for managing a huge rush of passengers, who had come to take the Railway Recruitment Exam held in the city today. The trains left the station at 2pm, 2.15 pm and 3.30 pm respectively from Chandigarh railway station to cater to the candidates. Thousands of candidates appeared in the exam held across 100 centres in the city.

From aspiring for a worthwhile career to fulfilling his family responsibilities, every situation in the life of 55-year-old Vinod Sharma reminded him of his disability. However, the inability to walk without calipers, as his left leg was completely handicapped since childhood, did not deter him from dreaming big. Refusing to surrender due to his limitations, he emerged as a leader wherever he went. Currently posted as the headmaster of Government Model High School (GMHS), Sector 34, Vinod Sharma, has become an inspiration for many others like him in the city. While holding the senior most position in the management of the school, Sharma also heads the union of government school teachers.

Parents and teachers can help in rooting out the evil called eve-teasing. More seats should be reserved in CTU buses for women. Drivers and conductors should learn how to deal with such incidents. Training sessions should be organised for them. Police personnel in civvies should be deployed near colleges, schools and markets.

Man held with 1-kg opium milk
Chandigarh, December 2
The crime branch of the Chandigarh Police arrested a person with 1 kg of opium milk. The accused has been identified as Bheru Lal, a native of Rajasthan. He was arrested from near the Chandigarh railway station. A local court has remanded him to judicial custody.

Thieves target cars in Sec 35
Chandigarh, December 2 Thieves are on the prowl in the city with two incidents of breaking window-panes of cars reported in the last 24 hours. Incidentally, both incidents were reported from Sector 35 only. The police said they suspected the same gang was involved in both the incidents.

Chandigarh Police emerge volleyball champs
Chandigarh, December 2
A match in progress at the sports complex in Sector 7, Chandigarh, on Sunday The Chandigarh Police won the Senior State Volleyball Championship after defeating defending champions SGGS Club, Sector 26, at the Sports Complex in Sector 7 today.
In a well-contested four-set match, the SGGS Club won the first set 29-27 but the police team after locking the set at 20 managed to win second set at game point.
