Rich haul of fake shoes

Respite for danga peerats
Ludhiana, December 19
The state government has revised the rates of houses meant for danga peerats. A meeting of senior officials, chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, was held in Chandigarh recently in which it was decided that the actual cost, fixed way back in 1991-1992, should be charged from the danga peerats and the interest should be waived off.

Officials to meet on eviction today
Ludhiana, December 19
Senior officials of the district administration, the police and GLADA will meet tomorrow to discuss the sensitive issue of eviction of occupants of six houses by December 31 as ordered by the Supreme Court. These houses, allotted to "danga peerats", were "illegally" occupied by some other danga peerats.

Ban on hookah bars

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari, exercising his powers under the section 144, has put a ban on the hookah bars in the entire district. This includes Corporation and Municipal Committee areas, besides the villages that constitute the revenue district of Ludhiana.

Deposit TDS or pay penalty

The CBDT has taken serious view of non-filers (of tax deducted at source) and has incorporated a new Section 234E in the Act which levies a fee of Rs 200 for each day of delay. The system does not accept the TDS statement until the delay fee has been paid.

The electric power wing of Northern Railway organised a seminar on energy conservation at the railway station as a part of the ongoing energy conservation week from December 14 to 21. The Divisional electrical engineer Idris Khan, senior section engineer Gursharanjit Singh Dhunna, along with other officials provided tips on energy conservation to the railway employees.

Married man dupes girl into wedlock
Ludhiana, December 19
The city police today booked a man, who duped a girl into marrying him posing as a bachelor. The accused is still to be arrested. The victim, Sapna Sood, a resident of Gobind Nagar, said that the accused, Inderjit Singh of Doraha, who is working as a car sales executive at a showroom in Focal Point, solemnized the marriage with her on January 28 this year.


Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka teams dominate on second day of National School Games

On the second day of the 58th National School Games, hockey, boxing, kabaddi and handball competitions were held at different venues in the city. Teams from Punjab, Kerala and Karnataka dominated in these events.
