Our Correspondent

Hoshiarpur, December 21
Civil Surgeon Dr Surinder Ganger today suspended Saran Pal, a watchman of the Civil Hospital, and has sent back Meenu Saini, information assistant in the Civil Hospital, to her parental organisation National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), for throwing two patients at a dumping plot of the hospital.

One of the patients was identified as Amandeep, son of Sukhdev Singh of Mirzapur Jhande village and the identification of the other was yet to be done.

Following the incident, people of the area protested in the hospital campus and demanded action against the above said employees.

Dr Surinder Ganger said both of them were admitted in the hospital and their treatment had been started. Amandeep, who was an addict, had got treatment from the hospital some time back. The second was still unconscious.

Both the persons had been abandoned in the hospital during the night hours. Meenu Saini, when noticed Amandeep, who was suffused with excrement, instructed the watchman to take him out from the hospital. When Saran Pal was taking Amandeep, he found another person, who was lying unconscious near the canteen. He took both of them to the rubbish dumping plot where he threw them.

Saran Pal was suspended while Meenu Saini did not come under any preview due to which an action was not taken against her. However, the surgeon had recommended to take action against her to the appointing authority.

NRI booked for fraud

Phagwara, December 21
The police today registered a case of fraud against an NRI on the complaint of his wife. Rajdeep Kaur Saini, a local resident, had complained against her Canada-based NRI husband Kulwinder Kumar, who had married her on June 26 in 2011, and returned to Canada on August 6.

Rajdeep’s husband was demanding Rs 15 lakh from her parents for her immigration to Canada. She alleged that her in-laws tortured her physically and mentally for dowry, including a car.

The police said Rajdeep had alleged that her husband was now threatening her that either she should arrange Rs 15 lakhs for immigration or he would marry another Punjabi girl, whose parents were ready to pay the amount and talks were being held with them.

The police has registered a case under Sections 406 and 498A of the IPC. — OC
