Nawanshahr, December 20 But as about 30 per cent of the population in the district is yet to be covered under the Aadhar Cards in the first phase, students eligible under different scholarship schemes and women beneficiaries under Janani Surakhaya Yojna would be covered under the pilot project. There are 39,213 beneficiaries under the scholarship schemes and Janani Surkahya Yojna in the district, out of which Aadhar cards of 16,708 beneficiaries have already been prepared. The data from schools and colleges regarding the number of students having Aadhar cards, number of students who are yet to receive the delivery of the cards and the number of students who are yet to be covered under the Aadhar card etc has also been sought. The teams are also being sent to schools to cover students under UID scheme to enable them to avail the benefits of various scholarship schemes. Besides, the Deputy Commissioner Tanu M Kashayap has also asked the banks to open the accounts of the beneficiaries at the enrollment centres. The SDMs of Nawanshahr, Balachaur and Banga have been made nodal officers and one counter each at the suvidha centres situated at Nawanshahr, Banga and Balachaur have been exclusively reserved for students to expedite the process of preparing Aadhar cards. |

Girl rescued, abductors arrested
Phagwara, December 20 Goraya SHO Sarabjit Rai the girl studied in Class VII in Government Senior Secondary School in Beer-Bansian village. The abductors went to her school during a recess period and forcibly took her in their car and fled. Meanwhile, victim's father Avtar Singh of Dhindsa village informed the police, which sounded an alert on all routes and succeeded to trace abductors' car. The trio has been sent to 2-day police remand. The car of the accused has also been impounded, said the SHO.

Poet Ajaib Kamal paid tributes
Hoshiarpur, December 20 A noted Punjabi literary scholar, Dr Kulbir Singh Kang was honoured posthumously with 2nd Ajaib Kamal Award. His son Dr Maninder Singh Kang, a literary scholar and a story writer, received the award. The poets who participated in the darbar included Darshan Buttar from Nabha and Navtej from Ghardiwala. — TNS
