Arrest warrants against HP MLA
Panchkula, December 21
A day after Congress Police personnel outside the residence of Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary on Friday, who is an accused in the Jyoti (inset) murder case. leader Ram Kumar Chaudhary was elected an MLA from the Doon constituency in Himachal Pradesh, the Panchkula police today issued arrest warrants against him and his three accomplices after they were named in the Jyoti murder case.

Historic rail car comes to a halt

The rail car that had been chugging on the narrow gauge rail track between Kalka and Shimla for over 80 years has come to a halt as it has developed a technical snag.

Students of Government Primary School, Mauli Baidwan, carry uniforms in polybags on Friday. Students of Government Primary School, Mauli Baidwan, were in for a shock when they were asked to return the school uniforms which they were given last month under the Centre government’s Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan. Reason: Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia, daughter of former Union Minister BS Ramoowalia, who lost Assembly elections on the SAD ticket from Mohali, had to distribute the uniforms.

Bouncers employed with discotheques in the city are under the police scanner for allegedly selling drugs to girls and boys frequenting discotheques.

UT admn violated minority rights: NCMEI
New Delhi, December 21
The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) has come down heavily on the Chandigarh Administration for “tormenting” the principal and an art teacher of St John’s High School. The Commission stated that the UT officials demonstrated “hearts of stone” and interfered “with the internal administration of a minority educational institution despite protections which the Constitution guarantees”.

Missing girl back home

Three days after the police came to know that a girl who had been reported missing was in Mumbai, she was traced and brought back to Panchkula today. The girl’s parents, residents of Sector 21, accompanied the police team to Mumbai.

Man commits suicide
Chandigarh, December 21
A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his Manimajra residence last night. The victim, Parmod, thrashed his wife and turned her and his children out of the room before hanging himself with a plastic rope. The victim's body was discovered by his wife in the morning after she broke the door to open it.

ESI Corporation fined
Mohali, December 21
The Mohali District Consumer Forum has imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the ESI Corporation for delaying the reimbursement of a factory worker's medical bill of Rs 3,272. The forum has directed the corporation to pay Rs 15,000, along with Rs 5,000 as costs of litigation, to the complainant, Jai Parkash, an employee of Synergy Telecommunication Ltd.

Youth dies in road mishap

A youth was killed when an unidentified vehicle hit him on the Ambala-Chandigarh road near Jyoti Hotel. The deceased was identified as Keshav, a resident of Bhagwasi village.

Man gets life imprisonment for killing wife
Mohali, December 21
A resident of Dera Bassi was today sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here for murdering his wife. Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajinder Aggarwal, who pronounced the sentence, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused, Rajinder Kumar.

PGI paper leak: Bail plea dismissed

A local court today dismissed the bail plea of eight accused in the PGI paper leak scam.

Nine arrested with stolen items worth Rs 12 lakh
Mohali, December 21
The CIA staff of the Mohali police has arrested nine members of a gang of burglars. The police also recovered stolen items worth Rs 12 lakh from them. SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said here today that the arrested accused were identified as Ajay, Ram Chander, Ajay Kumar and Raju, all four residents of Amb Sahib Colony here, Sanju, a resident of Una (HP), Mochi Ram of Mundi Kharar, Rajesh, a resident of Mohali village, Parmesar, a resident of Kambali, and Ramesh Bahadur, a resident of Hallo Majra.

Seventh Chand Trehan Basketball Tournament began at Holy Child School, Morni Road, in Panchkula today. In the boys' section, the host defeated St Teresa School 30-10; Satluj School beat Vijay Public School 32-15; Gurukul defeated Dikshant School 35-31; and Alpine School thrashed St Soldier by 30-16. In the girls' category, Dikshant School routed St Teresa 20-12 and St Xavier's defeated St Soldier's School by 18-12.
