Ambala man done to death
Ambala, January 28
Hari Pal Joshi, who was posted in Jammu, was done to death at his Prabhu Prem Puram residence. The police is questioning his wife Sunita and two sons in this regard. The possibility of an illicit relationship behind the murder of Hari Pal is not being ruled out. Sunita is said to have talked to a neighbour this morning and told that some persons had allegedly beaten up her husband and left him at the house. She alleged that Hari Pal had sustained head injury because of which he died. She also expressed her wish to get the last rites of the victim performed at the earliest. Local residents converged on the residence of Hari Pal on hearing the news of his death. The local residents claimed that they suspected foul play as Sunita did not allow them to remove a cap that Joshi was wearing. They claimed that Sunita showed reluctance when they told her to inform Hari Pal’s relatives about the murder. Thereafter, the local residents informed the relatives of Hari Pal as well as the police about his death. The relatives levelled allegations of Sunita having extra-marital relationship and claimed that it could have led to his murder. A police official said it was suspected that Sunita and her two sons had hit Joshi on the head with an iron rod following which he died. He said they were investigating into the possibility of involvement of a fourth person at the time of murder. He said Joshi had come to Ambala from Jammu on January 26. SP Ambala Rajbir Deswal said the wife and two sons had been arrested. “We are investigating different aspects of the case,” he said. |
Ration depot holders defraud BPL families
Hisar, January 28 To keep the records intact, the depot holders allegedly make fake entries on ration cards of BPL families on some pretext or the other. Since the members of BPL families are usually illiterate and downtrodden, they quietly accept whatever is “granted” to them, and the ration “business” goes on abated. Residents allege that most of the depot holders open the ration depots only once or twice a month. Many cardholders who go to the depots on learning about the availability of ration are sent back empty-handed by the depot-holders. This, despite the fact that every ration depot holder gets supply for all cardholders of his area. Moreover, several politicians, especially those in power, force the officials concerned to “accommodate their men”, often in defiance of law. In fact, irregularities begin at the very first stage, i.e., identification of BPL families for making pink or yellow ration cards meant for them. While some well-to-do persons get pink or yellow ration cards made for them, many needy and deserving families get green ration cards, on which no ration is provided. The District Food and Supplies Controller, Dr Ghanshyam Singh, maintained that the department received many complaints of improper ration distribution and appropriate action was taken against those found guilty. “Fine is imposed on the depot-holders indulging in corrupt practices or other irregularities. Some of them are even stripped of the charge of depots,” he said. On being told about certain specific cases, the DFSC asserted that he would look into the matter and take appropriate action. Dr Singh, however, pointed out that some residents also indulged in irregularities by getting more than one ration card made in the name of different members of one family. Some others conceal the fact that they are using LPG stove to get supply of kerosene oil. Seeing the nature and extent of the rot that has set in the public distribution system (PDS), streamlining of the entire system after a thorough cleansing is the need of the hour. |
Students suffer as posts of teacher
lie vacant
Jhajjar, January 28 However, in a face-saving move, the state Education Department has directed the school authorities to appoint guest teachers from Class 8 to plus two. Official sources revealed that department was in the process of appointing more than 250 teachers in these schools. Senior academicians, however, have criticised the move. The middle-level exams are commencing on February 10, while the exams of Class 10 and plus Two are starting in first week of March. What magic these newly appointed guest teachers are expected perform with the students?” questioned a Principal of a school where only two teachers ‘handled’ 10 + 1 and 10 +2 classes throughout the year for all subjects. Posts of junior lecturer in English, Hindi, (both
compulsory subjects), history and economics have been lying vacant in the senior secondary school,
Matanhail, where about 250 students are enrolled in 10 + 1 and 10 + 2 classes. The

Koyalpur, Lilaheri, Birohar, Khanpur, Sasroli village, only two junior lecturers have been handling all the subjects. However even guest teachers could not be appointed in the school in Koyalpur village due to non-fulfilment of certain norms. The same is the case with many other schools. Mr Randhir Singh, a clerk at the education office revealed that about 160 teachers for social science, science, Hindi, Sanskrit and English at the higher secondary level and about 80 junior lecturers for English, Hindi, history, political science and Sanskrit at the senior secondary level had been appointed so far. He said the District Education Office had also directed that vacant posts at the middle level should be filed although the exams are only two weeks away. The students are dejected and demoralised . “We waited for the entire year for arrival of teachers. Now we are under pressure with the exams round the corner,” lamented a group of students in a school. The situation is even worse at the primary level where 80 to 100 students have to make do with a single teacher. Such schools are situated in
