Mishap victim dies at PGI
Chandigarh, January 28
A taxi driver succumbed to his injuries at the PGI after the Qualis he was driving was hit by a PRTC bus near the Aroma light point here this morning. The victim, Manjeet, was a resident of Ropar. After hitting the Qualis, the driver of the bus escaped from the spot.

Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahay visited Alchemist Limited’s, a food processing plant at Banmajra, near Ropar, today. Addressing the workers and officials of the plant, Mr Sahay said it was the time to focus on the food processing sector as it had long been neglected.

Charges framed in graft case
Chandigarh, January 28
The CBI Special Judge today framed charges against Nirdosh Sodhi in a case of corruption registered by the CBI in May 2005. The CBI had stated that she being posted in the SC/ST Commission used to accept instalment of loans from an applicant.

Play brings alive saga of sacrifice
Chandigarh, January 28
The Aakriti Kala Kendra, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Haryana, presented a historical play “Kiv Koode Tute Pal” at Tagore Theatre here yesterday. Written by Gursharan Singh, the play depicted the atrocities committed on non-Muslim subjects during the rule of Aurangzeb.

TT championship results

Punjab’s Shirvey Dhawan beat Shobah Naidu of Maharashtra 12-10, 11-8, 11-8 and helped her team to register a victory over Maharashtra 3-1 in the women team championship semi-finals of the fifth All-India Table Tennis Tournament (2005-06) at Table Tennis hall, Sector 23, here today. In the men’s team championship, the Tamil Nadu team got the better of Madhya Pradesh 3-1 in the semi-finals.

Anmol shines in tennis tourney
Chandigarh, January 28
A local lad, Anmol Singh Ladhar won the Super Series Tennis Tournament held at Ahmedabad from January 23 to January 27, reliable sources said here today. In the finals of the singles category, Anmol defeated Sumit Shinde of Pune in straight sets 6-2 6-3. Anmol was also the runners-up in the doubles event.

Laxman Singh wins top honours

Laxman Singh won the top honours in the single skull men event of Chandigarh State Senior Rowing Championship at the Lake Club here today. In the same event under the women’s category, Munshadi Khatoon remained at the top.
