HVP announces names of 6 candidates Gurgaon, March 28 Mr Bansi
Lal, who was here to attend his party’s public meeting, announced the names of his party nominees which included his son and party’s
Secretary-General, Mr Surender Singh, for the Bhiwani seat. For the Rohtak
seat, the HVP nominated Mrs Usha Ahlawat and Chaudhary Kanwal Singh for the Hisar constituency. The others who had been nominated were: Mr Anil Rao-Mahendergarh; Mr Ram Chander Jangra-Karnal and Jeetender Singh Kaka-Kurukshetra. Mr Bansi Lal said his party would contest all 10 seats in the state and names of the other nominees would be announced shortly. The HVP declared the names of its nominees with the release of its
manifesto which had sops for all sections of the society. The
document, which consisted of 24 points, included assurance of restructuring of the present order of house tax. The party, if come to power in the assembly election in the state which was about a year
away, would exempt those houseowners in the municipal limits from tax who were personally using them. Also, the party would reduce power tariff across-the-
board, besides providing round-the-clock power. The tariff for tubewells would be assessed on the basis of slab system. No arrests would be made for recovery of bank dues. The manifesto promised jobs for educated unemployed. Those who had completed plus two would get Rs 200 as unemployment allowance per
month, while those who had completed BA and above degree would get Rs 250. The halwai tax imposed by the present government would be scrapped and Punjabi language would be given the status of second language by the state. Also, a Punjabi sahitya academy would be set up. The party promised to provide better law and order situation in the state and remove all statues of Devi Lal from public places. The other sops included plots at the concessional rates for residential accommodations for members of the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and completion of the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal project. |
BJP cannot go it alone, says Chautala Bahadurgarh (Jhajjar), March 28 He was addressing a political meeting here today to canvass for Ms Krishna Malik, party nominee from the Sonepat parliamentary constituency. The INLD chief said the delay in announcements of the party nominees by the opposition parties in Haryana was because the BJP after snapping its ties with his party was searching another crutches, as the party could not go it alone. “In the past, the BJP has been in power in the state by having a pact with the HVP or his party, the INLD, as the BJP cannot win any election without the help of one regional force or the other and the party’s central leadership realise it fully. But the state BJP leaders have been adopting two-pronged policy of enjoying power while working against his government at the same time, which cannot be tolerated”, says Mr Chautala. He criticised the “feel good” slogan of the BJP and the road show of the Congress. Mr Chautala tried to win back the annoyed urban electorate, when he promised to redress all grievances of them in the remaining one year of his governance. Mr Sher Singh Badsami, state INLD chief, Mr Sultan Singh, former Governor and the Chairman of the Devi Lal Trust, Mr Gopi Chand Gahlot, state Assembly Deputy Speaker, Mr Nafe Singh Rathee, local MLA, and Ms Krishna Malik, party candidate from the Sonepat Lok Sabha seat, also addressed the gathering. |

No alliance with BJP, says
Bansi Lal Gurgaon, March 28 Mr Bansi Lal, who was here to address a public meeting, criticised Mr Advani for his speech in which he had urged upon people to vote for the Congress if they did not vote the BJP or its regional allies. Mr Advani had reportedly made the utterance recently, addressing a public meeting at Palwal in Faridabad district. The HVP chief trained his guns on Mr Advani when inquired about the possibility of the HVP’s alliance with the BJP. In response to another question, he said his party would support any formation at the Centre, except that which is headed by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, which would protect the interest of Haryana. Mr Bansi Lal announced that he would launch a national level project to the Ahirwal belt and Jind district, if his party come to power in the state. |
Traders to oppose INLD candidates
Rohtak, March 28 Talking to mediapersons after addressing a meeting of the Rohtak Traders Association here, Mr Garg alleged that the Chautala government had betrayed the traders by pursuing policies which went against the interests of the business community in the state. The Haryana Pradesh Vyapar Mandal would work in close association with other traders’ organisations to ensure the defeat of all candidates of the ruling INLD not only in Haryana but also in Rajasthan, Delhi, UP and Chandigarh, Mr Garg said, adding that the traders would vote tactically in the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana in favour of those candidates defeating the INLD candidates.

Former minister’s daughter to contest from Ambala Yamunanagar, March 28 Addressing newsmen here last night that she wanted to contest as Congress candidate and met Mr Bhajan Lal, President, Haryana Pradesh Congress for ticket. She made it clear that if she was not given Congress ticket then she would contest as independent candidate. She said that her father late Sher Singh was a Dalit leader and worked for the uplift of Dalits. |
HAU to start bioinformatics course Hisar, March 28 According to a university spokesperson this decision was taken at a meeting of the Academic Council of the university here yesterday. The admissions to this course would be made on the basis of entrance test. The council decided that there would be common entrance test for M.Sc degree programmes in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology and Food and Science and Technology. The council also decided to start Ph.D. programme in Biotechnology from the academic session 2004-2005. Candidates having M.Sc degree in Animal Breeding and M.V.Sc in Animal Biotechnology would also be eligible for admission. Revoking the earlier decision of granting admissions to candidates to B.Sc (Agriculture) course on the basis of merit in the qualifying examinations, the Council had decided to reintroduce entrance test. The council had decided to grant weightage to students who complete B.Sc degree with good record in co-curricular activities. It was also decided at the meeting to change the duration of M.Sc degree in Home Science for students having B.Sc (Hons) and B.Sc degree in the discipline. Now, the students having B.Sc degree would have to spend additional six months during which they would clear some deficiency courses. The council also decided to bring parity in the designation of training organisers and district extension specialists working at Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KGK) of the university. |
KU empowers Principals to take major decisions Hisar, March 28 Addressing a meeting of the college Principals at Dayanand College, Hisar Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr A K Chawla allowed the Principals to take major decisions at their own level for fair and smooth conduct of the examinations. The problems raised by the Principals were sorted out at the meeting there and then. Dr Chawla was the chief guest of the seminar on Challenges before Higher Education, organised by the Haryana Non-government Colleges Principals Association here today. Hisar Division Commissioner P K Das, who presided over the function and was the main speaker, said, “Our country lacks a clear-cut policy on higher education”. “The inroad of foreign universities is eating into our education system,” he said. He also expressed serious concern over braindrain from the country. Mr Das called upon the educationists that it was high time that our teachers kept pace with the changing times and adopt the latest methodology in class and laboratories.

Body of 10-year-old girl found Yamunanagar, March 28 Urmila, a resident of Rampur Bihta village, went along with his family members to nearby Fatehgarh village to attend a wedding in the family. The girl was found missing during the wedding. Her parents searched the girl in many villages but all in vain. Her father, Mr Prem Chand, had doubt on Mr Baldev Singh of Chagnauli village. He lodged a complaint on March 26 at the Buria police station. He alleged that Mr Baldev had been absconding since the same day and he suspected that he had kidnapped his daughter. The police lodged an FIR under Sections 363, 366, IPC, and started investigation. |
