BJP puts off decision on 5 Haryana seats Chandigarh, March 27 Mr Ganeshi Lal, when contacted, dismissed reports about difficulty being faced by the BJP to field good candidates in the state. |
Chautala family treats party MPs like slaves: Gurjar Chandigarh, March 27 Mr Ajay Singh, who represented the constituency in the dissolved Lok Sabha, further said that at least Rs 10 crore from the Local Area Development Fund of the INLD MPs, representing other constituencies, had been spent for development of the Bhiwani constituency following his intervention. Reacting to Mr Ajay Singh’s claim, Mr Gurjar said the Lok Sabha member’s statement regarding filling of one-fourth of the vacancies of the state by people from Bhiwani amounted to an admission that aspirants from other areas of the state had been discriminated against. The Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, himself had facilitated this game of discrimination so that the constituency of his elder son could be nurtured, Mr Gurjar said. The BJP leader also expressed surprise at Mr Ajay Singh’s claim about channelising the area development funds of other MPs for the development of his constituency. “This shows the status of the INLD MPs, who are treated like slaves by members of the Chautala family”, Mr Gurjar said. |
Chautala rejected package for cane-growers, Chandigarh, March 27 Mr Kataria, who was talking to newspersons, here after paying obeisance at the Mata Mansa Devi temple immediately after the BJP formally announced his nomination from the Ambala reserved seat, said the Chautala government would fall soon after the Lok Sabha elections because the people of the state would reject it at the hustings. Claiming that the Centre had given over Rs 700 crore to the state for building roads, Mr Kataria alleged that the Chautala government played havoc with roads by allowing over-loaded vehicles to ply for extraneous considerations. He also accused the INLD government of taking credit for the scheme by the Central Government for the benefit of farmers. Mr Kataria said the Union Agriculture Ministry had prepared a special package for cane-growers at his request so that the growers could be paid their dues of the cane purchased by the mills. But Mr Chautala rejected the package because it would have benefited the farmers of the Ambala and Karnal areas, which were represented by the BJP MPs. He claimed that he had spent about Rs 12.50 crore out of the MP Local Area Development Fund on over 1500 development works, which was a record of sorts. He said though he was given about Rs 8 crore under the scheme in the past four years, he could spend more because the Congress MP from Ambala had left his funds unutilised. |

Leprosy
patients fear casting vote Ambala, March 27 Mr Prabhash Jha, general secretary of the ashram, told Chandigarh Tribune that a separate booth for the leprosy patients hurt the interest of democracy. "It becomes clear that we are not part of the mainstream. Also, our anonymity as voters is lost due to the separate booth," he said. Till about two decades ago, the leprosy patients had been casting their vote along with other
people. "However, in 1985 a separate booth
was set up for us within our ashram complex.
This was done with the consent of the then ashram residents, little realising that it will take us away from the mainstream," he said. Ever since, they were facing a difficult situation, he added. "We are only 60 voters. Since we have a separate booth, the political parties get to know whom we vote
for. The parties we
don't favour then tend
to ignore us," he explained. The leprosy patients were thus considering
not casting their vote in this election. "If we do not cast our vote, then no political party can blame us. We need everybody's support," they stated. Residents
of the ashram demanded that either their polling booth should be done
away with and they be permitted to cast their vote along with others
in the neighbouring areas, or a few other areas should be added to
their polling booth so that their anonymity was maintained. The
patients said that except for Ambala Cantonment MLA Anil Vij,
politicians had not cared about their problems. "We repeatedly
approached a former BJP MP with our demands, but to no avail,"
they alleged. The demands included the construction of toilets and a
boundary wall. "Our simple requests were not even considered. The
cemented pathways came up due to the intervention of Mr Vij,"
they stated. |
