Chamber alleges steel hoarding by dealers

Mr Inderjit Singh Pardhan, President of the local Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings, has urged the state police to probe the continuing hike in the prices of steel despite the fact that the Union Ministry of Finance has reduced the excise duty on the final products of steel and also reduced the customs duty on the import of steel.

Ludhiana, March 28
Senior politicians, bureaucrats and IPS officers are learnt to have influenced the elections for various posts in the elite Satluj Club here. The elections were held today and till the filing of this report the counting of votes was in progress.

Cong rally against feel-good factor
Ludhiana, March 28
Congress functionaries held a public meeting against the ‘feel-good factor’ at Salem Tabri here today. Earlier, the party workers, led by the PPCC Secretary, Mr Parminder Mehta, took out a march from the Congress Bhawan to the Clock Tower Chowk carrying banners and placards.

Guru Gobind Singh gifted urn to this Pakistani’s family

“Gangasagar, a metallic ‘surahi’ like an urn with holes on every side and on the bottom, has the power to retain a liquid inside it. This was gifted by Guru Gobind Singh to my ancestor, Rai Kalla, in 1705 in return for providing him shelter when he was in difficulty and when many people were not ready to give him shelter. We revere it and it has been in the family for nine generations.

One killed in scooter accident
Ludhiana, March 28
One person was killed, while another was seriously injured when their scooter was hit by a bus near Alamgir here today. While one person died on the spot, another was seriously injured. He was rushed to hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

Ludhiana, March 28
Tagore Vidya Mandir celebrated its 28th annual day and prize distribution function here today. Ms Manjit Kaur Sodhia presided over the function. An art and craft exhibition, Art-2004, was organised by students of the school.

RI for bus conductor, driver
Ludhiana, March 28
The Additional Sessions Judge, Mr Inderjit Kaushik, has convicted a driver and conductor of M/s Deol Bus Service on a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a driver of Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) and stopping him from discharging his duty.

Experts talk about adolescent problems
Ludhiana, March 28
As a part of the golden jubilee of the MBBS course, the Department of Paediatrics, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), organised a CME on adolescent care. Dr Manorma Verma, a former head of the department, and Dr M.K.S. Nair, president, Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), inaugurated the CME.

Navneet, Simrat excel in PTU athletics meet
Ludhiana, March 28
Two students of the local Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Navneet and Simrat, were declared the best and the second best athletes at the 7th Annual Athletics Championship of Punjab Technical University (PTU), which concluded at Baba Banda Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib, yesterday.
