Mission cleanliness: Chief Secy, senior officers take pledge
New Delhi, October 2 Just after the PM administered pledge, the Chief Secretary initiated the cleanliness drive in all floors at Delhi Secretariat along with the team of officers. He inspected all the floors of Delhi Secretariat where the offices of General Administration Department, Vigilance, Finance, Planning, Environment, etc. are located. He also inspected the corridors, toilets in various floors and instructed the staff to keep them clean. Spolia instructed the officials to make the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan a regular programme of cleanliness. Besides various departments, 2,700 students of government schools participated in the programme organized at the India Gate. A special midday meal was arranged for them on this occasion by the Directorate which also organized painting and slogan writing competitions. In all the hospitals and dispensaries, doctors and other staff took a pledge to maintain cleanliness. After administering the oath, the heads of different hospitals identified areas where the cleanliness drive will be taken up. The officers and staffs themselves cleaned the corridors, desks, computers and office equipment. AAP to keep tabs on cleanliness drive
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had chosen the broom as its party symbol, said that the next part of the cleanliness campaign will be to monitor it. In the next phase, the AAP will soon announce its plan of effectively monitoring the cleanliness drive and how the civic agencies can be made accountable for performing their primary duty. Led by party's national convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who took up the cleaning of a choked drain at BR Camp in New Delhi, early in the day, the AAP volunteers across the country participated in the drive. DU VC sweeps campus
Like other parts of the Capital, Delhi University echoed with the sanitation pledge and witnessed sights of students and faculty and non-teaching staff sweeping lanes and corners of the varsity campuses this morning as part of the Narender Modi government's "Swachh Bharat Mission". Launching the cleanliness drive at Gandhi Bhawan by sweeping the campus himself, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Singh exhorted students to take up the task of cleanliness themselves instead of depending on the civic workers. JNU 'pledge for rights'
The JNU Students' Union joined by teachers and sanitation workers today read out a parallel pledge to register their resentment against the Narendra Modi government and called for a dignified living and rights of sanitation workers. The JNUSU organised a 'Pledge for Rights' programme today, even as the Modi government launched the 'Swacch Bharat' drive. The programme underlined the need to address the plight of workers engaged in sanitation work and around hundred sanitation workers along with several students and teachers who participated in the parallel protest were seen with black bands tied around their arms. "We pledge to organise ourselves for a just society and expose the myth of 'good governance' and ''Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan'. We ask for ourselves our rights and dues and pledge not to be fooled by false promises," they said while resolving to fight against the contractualisation of labour, which leads to inhuman working conditions and corruption. "Why is it that the people considered 'lower' in the caste hierarchy are forced to do works considered 'unclean' by others for generations? For the Prime Minister, it may be a 'spiritual experience' but we all know that this indignity has been forced upon us," pointed JNUSU vice president Anant Prakash Narayan. According to Abha Arya, JNUSU Councillor, the need of the hour is to understand the social dynamics behind the social inequity and humiliating arrangement. "We must fight against it. No 'Swacch Bharat' can be achieved without talking about sanitation workers and their hardships especially in the backdrop of contract system," said Abha. Nirankari activists clean various places
Showing a sense of responsibility towards habitat and environment, thousand of devotees of Nirankari sect today participated in the 'Clean India' drive. Devotees numbering about 3,000, belonging to all branches of Sant Nirankari Mission, participated in the campaign. M.Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs had written a letter to Baba Hardev Singh, illustrating the noble objective of the 'Clean India' mission. The devotees carried out the campaign at Red Fort, ISBT, Metro stations, Anand Vihar, Ambedkar Hospital, IBHS Hospital and Dilshad Garden. |
Let DUSU, parties face music for defacing city: RWAs
New Delhi, October 2 They called for strict enforcement of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act 2007, which has seen hardly any prosecution under it even as it is considered the strongest legislation among all the municipal corporations in the country with penalty of up to Rs 50,000 or up to one year jail or both. According to Col Shivraj, president of Munirka Vihar RWA in South Delhi, both the civic authorities and police officials "turn a blind eye accusing each other for inaction". "Most of the posters in the Capital have the images, names and ballot numbers of candidates of both the student unions and political parties. Onus lies on the civic authority and police officials who can arrest and penalise them directly. They must ensure that action is taken against them," he stressed. Delhi Resident's Forum convener VK Arora, said, "It is common to see defaced walls, Metro pillars and street furniture with posters of contestants in the DUSU elections or during normal times, mostly by AAP. They remain for months and the authorities don't take action." Demanding action against the political parties and student unions, VN Bali of RWA Federation, East Delhi, asserted, "This is the time when we should force MPs, MLAs and the coucillors to ensure that their areas are clean and poster-free." |
