100% water supply, sewerage by 2017: Principal Secretary
Ashok Gupta, Principal Secretary, Department of Local Bodies, Punjab, has said by 2017, all cities of the state will have 100 per cent water supply and sewerage, sewage treatment plants, night shelters, bus shelters, solid waste management facilities. He said the Punjab Government would be engaging a company named Engineers India Ltd that would conduct a comprehensive study on the cleaning of Budha

Liquor flows despite ban

Caring little about October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti) being a dry day, a few liquor vends in the city were seen selling liquor. Many vends were partially opened while others were seen selling liquor clandestinely.
Liquor vends located on highways kept their shutters down till 5pm but those located in the interiors had a field day.

Hot mix plant non-operational, no fuel for vehicles

It seems the financial position of the Municipal Corporation has turned from bad to worse. While the patch work on the roads is to be started in the wake of the rainy season, the hot-mix plant of the civic body has been non-functional for the past three or four days. Besides, a few petrol stations have refused to provide fuel to the MC vehicles as their dues have not been cleared by the civic body.

The Punjab Medical Council (PMC) has issued notices to more than 25 doctors across the state who were found taking commission from diagnostic centres for prescribing tests from particular centres and giving advertisements on television in violation of the ethics of registered medical practitioners.
Committees try to cut others to size with taller Ravanas

The city is all set to celebrate Dasehra. Huge effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhakarna are being erected. These will be burnt before the sunset to mark the victory of good over evil. The Dasehra committees in different localities are trying to move a step further by creating bigger effigies than what they burnt the previous year.

The teachers and students of government schools vowed to maintain cleanliness
on their school premises. The schools initiated the cleanliness drive here
today. A large number of teachers, who had planned their holidays from October
2, were disappointed with this move by the Modi government. Resultantly, some
teachers did not attend the event.

Brooms, spades and dusters outnumbered any other tool used by constituents of various social, religious, educational and financial organisations of the region today.
Bringing novelty to their action, some organisations took up personal hygiene projects in slums of their areas.
Besides contributing via manual labour to the country’s biggest-ever cleanliness drive, employees of various government and public undertaking organisations took a pledge to ensure cleanliness in their offices and residential areas by working at least two hours per week as part of Narendra Modi administration’s “Swachh Bharat” mission.

Maintain cleanliness at house, workplace, ADC tells officials

As part of the “Swachh Bharat” Abhiyan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amrit Kaur Gill today administered the oath of cleanliness to officers and staff of the Deputy Commissioner office at the Mini-Secretariat here.

Dasehra venues are becoming a place for enjoying fun rides during the week-long affair preceding the festival.
Most of the grounds where the effigies of
Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkarna will be burnt have almost turned into mini-amusement parks. Children and even grown-ups can be seen making the most of the occasion.

Rail overbridge still a distant dream

Construction of railway overbridge seems to be a distant dream for residents of local town and surrounding localities. The residents have urged the government to at least constrict underbridges on the
Ludhiana-Dhuri line. They have also urged the authorities concerned to repair the approach roads in the town, so that underbridges constructed near Ghungrana and Jitwal villages can be used by commuters.
Date of TDS, TCS deposit extended

(TDS) and tax collected at source (TCS) has been extended. Holidays in the first week of October were becoming a cause of concern for taxpayers as banks will be closed on these days, which would result in non-payment of TDS and
TCS. Though there is also an option of e-payment, a few opt for it.
