Bypass to cut travel time to ISBT
New Delhi, September 27 For passengers entering the national Capital from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, the drive from Delhi bypass to ISBT, Kashmere Gate, will be reduced to less than 15 minutes with the introduction of this new road which is being constructed parallel to the existing bypass across the drain. The work of constructing the new stretch is being undertaken by the Public Works Department. The new road will be 8.9-km-long six-lane stretch laid on concrete material. It will be made accessible for traffic on Karnal Highway from Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar on NH-1 through a one-km-long elevated diversion just before the red-light. It will finally merge into the current bypass at Jagatpur. This parallel bypass will help a great deal in decongesting the ring road as the vehicles coming from northern states will get an alternative route to reach the bus stand, bringing relief to commuters stuck in traffic snarls. Chief engineer Sarvagya Kr. Srivastava, giving details of the project, said the total cost of construction has been pegged at 200.27 crore. "It will remarkably reduce the travelling time between Mukarba Chowk at Ring Road and ISBT, which is otherwise in the current traffic situation during peak hours is not less than 45 minutes. Through this road, it will take only 10-15 minutes to reach ISBT," he said. Apart from this, the PWD is also working on up-gradation of existing bypass and making it signal free by constructing four new flyovers, bridge on drain at Libaspur and Bhalaswa and two loops for right turn at Mukundpur. These flyovers will zip through Bhalswa Chowk, Mukandpur Chowk, Burari Chowk and Jagatpur crossing. "All the financial and administrative approvals have been received for the project," said Srivastav. The flyovers are expected to completed in the mid of 2016. As part of this project, the PWD will also widen the road on both sides and work for its strengthening. |
Cong to hold rally against demolition drive today
New Delhi, September 27 The demolitions were carried out in Maidan Garhi, Aya Nagar and the Chhattarpur Assembly constituency. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Arvinder Singh alleged that the demolition drive was being carried out deliberately on the behest of the BJP-ruled Centre government. He expressed his surprise that defying the government's existing policy, the administration was carrying out demolition. "The demolition in unauthorized colonies has created an atmosphere of fear among the poor, which would not be tolerated by the party," said Singh. DPCC chief spokesperson and senior party leader Mukesh Sharma said the people are very agitated against the demolition drive undertaken by the Revenue Department of the Delhi administration in villages and unauthorized colonies of south Delhi. "The BJP's devious plans to remove these villages and colonies would be exposed in this rally, he said. “After the "Chetavani rally", the protestors would burn the effigies of the BJP and the government and the top leaders of the Congress would address the rally. |

New Delhi, September 27 A report that has details of many incidents of attacks on minorities during 100 days of the BJP regime was released by the NGOs. It was edited by a senior journalist and an activist John Dayal. Love-jihad is only a part of hate campaign against minorities instigated and propagated by fundamental elements in the government." Former Delhi Minorities Commission member A.C. Micheal said the government should take action against those who are spreading hatred and violence in the country. Rajya Sabha MP Ali Anwar Ansari said, "I urge people from all communities to pay deaf ears to those spreading hatred among communities on religious grounds." The condition of minority communities is dilapidating day by day due to indifference meted out and apathy shown by the government," said Sheba Farooqui of All India Democratic Women's Association. Bishop John Simon said, "The Christians have done much admirable work in almost every social sphere, including health and education. Our contribution needs no elaboration. We have to get united in order to fight for our rights". "If solution to this menace is not meted out now, then in the coming times minorities will even lose their power of speech and expression. We have contributed a lot in nation building and we are also citizens of this country as other communities are," said Zafur-ul-Islam, a Muslim activist. During the programme students of Mount Carmal School presented a stage show and a short play depicting the social menace of honour killing and love-jihad.
