SDMC hikes parking fees
New Delhi, September 19 As per the new proposal for surface and multi-level parking facilities, hourly rate for cars has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 20, and for two-wheelers from Rs 7 to Rs 10. As per 24-hour parking facility, the revised rates will cost Rs 100 for cars and Rs 50 for two-wheelers. The revised rates will also make the motorists pay more for the day and night monthly passes. Upadhyay, who resigned from the post yesterday to focus on his party responsibilities as the BJP Delhi unit president, said the hike was "reasonable and only marginal". "This was due for a long time and I believe the hike is very reasonable. For cars, it is just Rs 10 hike per hour and people go and pay for parking in malls also. And, though we had plans for premium parking also, but we have not made provisions for them so far," said Upadhyay. Major parking lots in south Delhi are in Greater Kailash-I/II, South Extension-I/II, Lajpat Nagar, Green Park, Hauz Khas, Defence Colony, Vasant Kunj among others. "This will also help in tackling the parking mafia," he said. The Opposition Congress in SDMC, however, said the move would not really have an impact on such mafia. "Parking mafia will continue to mint money. This move will only put additional burden on the public," Opposition leader Farhad Suri said. Increased parking rates for areas in north Delhi and east Delhi are also on the cards as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) are likely to follow suit, to bring uniformity in parking charges across the city. "The proposal is under active consideration in the two civic bodies (NDMC and EMDC) and we are waiting for them to be tabled in the respective standing committees," spokesperson for NDMC and EDMC Yogendra Singh Mann said.

DDA approves south Delhi greenway project
New Delhi, September 19 The greenway project will be monitored by Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC). A DDA official said a detailed project report for the South Delhi Greenway Project will be prepared for the entire stretch of 12.5 km which covers
the total length of Barapullah drain originating from Saib-ul-Ajab near Meharauli and ending at the confluence with the Yamuna near Barapullah Bridge. The project will be funded by the DDA from its own funds. The cost is estimated as Rs. 250 crore for phase-I that is from Sarai Kale Khan to INA. Besides, the DDA has also notified 17 villages to include them in green belt. The official said there was a long pending issue of increasing floor area ratio of big plots. In the meeting the DDA modified the Delhi Master Plan 2021 increasing floor area ratio from 40 per cent to 50 per cent in a plot of 750 sqm and above. It has also approved a proposal of land used of 21.58 hectare from residential to public and semi-public at Ghitorni village which will be developed as institutional-cum-residential area. Organisers of Lotus Temple, Bahai House worship has also been permitted to increase ground coverage in the premises of the temple. The DDA has also approved a proposal of land use of an area of 7,530 sqm from transportation to residential units located near Leela Hotel to facilitate residential accommodation for railways. |

'Married' girl not allowed to attend classes in Badli
New Delhi, September 19 Mehjabeen, 19, a resident of Badli and student of a government school here, has written to Delhi Lt governor Najeeb Jung seeking his help for readmission. In her letter, she said she had attended classes from April 1 to 15, after which she went on leave as her marriage was scheduled for May 17. The school closed for summer-vacations and re-opened on July 1. However, she could not join her classes as she was suffering from dengue. She claimed her mother informed the school about her illness and her inability to attend classes and also proposed to submit a written application for medical leave. "However, the school authorities refused to accept the same. “The mother also submitted her school-fee during her absence from the school," the girl alleged in her letter. On recovering, Mehjabeen went to school on September 2 with her mother but the principal refused to allow her to attend classes, saying the company of a married student shall cast immoral influence upon other schoolchildren, she said. condemned such an incident but said the department has not yet received any complaint on the issue. "Marriage can never be the reason for a student's expulsion from school. The school principal is definitely at fault. We have not yet received any complaint. Once we get the complaint, we will inquire into it and take action accordingly," he said.

18% growth in establishments operating in city
New Delhi, September 19 Delhi exceeds other states like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in number of workers employed per enterprise or average employment size, as per the report. The census, prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, was conducted during February-June 2013 under central plan scheme sponsored by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The report shows that Delhi shares 1.50 per cent of total establishments operating all over the country. The maximum number of establishments is in Central district which has also the largest number of workers employed. The report highlights how rural areas are lagging behind urban sectors in having these infrastructures or establishments, as out of total establishments urban share amounts to 98.6 per cent. The report suggests low participation of females in total work force. The female workers amount to meagre 12.2 per cent of the total workforce. The hired workers are nearly double the strength of non-hired ones. Delhi shares 2.34 per cent of the total numbers of those employed in country. The census also reveals that maximum number of establishments is located in the Central district of Delhi followed by West, Northeast, Northwest and East districts, respectively. The concentration of such establishments in a particular area or district shows the under development of other areas particularly with regard to establishment of such infrastructure. The number of workers per enterprise in Delhi is also greater than all India average as a single enterprise in Delhi caters around 3.34 individuals as compared to national average of 2.18 workers per enterprise.

AAP seeks BJP's apology for producing morphed pics in HC
New Delhi, September 19 "The failed attempts by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to cheat the High Court by producing morphed photographs, has completely exposed the levels to which the BJP can fall to hide its corruption and incompetence," said the party. Taking on the BJP, the AAP alleged that the BJP controlled three Municipal Corporations of Delhi are "dens of corruption", and have over the past seven years earned the dubious distinction of being highly incompetent and inefficient. "These corporations are primarily responsible for the visible heaps of garbage across the national Capital and the citizens no longer expect these bodies to even perform their basic duties. The Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), in its report tabled in Parliament in August, had termed the drainage and de-silting work carried out in the national Capital as a big fraud. This work is done by the MCDs in the city," said the AAP. Stating that the functioning of the MCDs speaks volumes about the agenda of the BJP for Delhi, the party said, "The kind of fraud this party tried to play on the High Court only further proves that along with the Congress, it is fully involved in acts of corruption to loot the city. |

Couple commits suicide
New Delhi, September 19 The incident came to light about 4 pm when a neighbour went to meet them. The neighbour kept knocking on the door of the couple's house but received no response. He finally called the police. The police broke open the door. "The couple was found hanging from an iron rod placed near the ceiling of one of the rooms," a police officer said. The police took the bodies to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. The couple's daughter has been informed about the incident. The bodies have been sent for the post-mortem. The police have not found suicide note from the spot. The police questioned relatives and neighbours and learnt that Sudan and his wife were anxious for the past few months due to their debts. Sudan had also been having troubles paying his house rent, the officer said. The couple had spent a large sum of money for their daughter's wedding. |

Illegal structures: Cops to face action for graft
New Delhi, September 19 While talking to mediapersons at his office, Bassi said: "Strict action will be taken against the policemen found involved in case of bribery for or allowing or halting unauthorised constructions." Bassi said people can make a video or an audio of such policemen who demand bribe and then approach the vigilance department by calling up 9910641064 or the anti-corruption helpline number 1064. The Delhi Police have also issued a circular to their officers on duties and procedures to follow if they get calls of any unauthorised construction. "There is no inherent authority with police officials to stop any unauthorised construction without the prior permission of the civic agency," said Bassi. The SHO shall only inform the municipal authority concerned about the unauthorised construction as per Section 475 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957. Bassi said the police officer will only act on the receipt of orders from the municipal authority regarding stoppage of construction, removal of workmen and seizure of construction material, including tools and machinery. The police have also appealed to the people to approach and inform them if any policeman demands bribe for doing any work. — IANS |

Tihar Jail prisoner dies
New Delhi, September 19 The deceased, Rinku, was found unconscious in jail number one of Tihar Prisons. Rinku was arrested for robbery in Moti Nagar, west Delhi. The incident follows two alleged cases of suicide, one murder and one of accidental death in the last fortnight. An inquest proceeding has been ordered by the Tihar authorities, but his family have alleged foul play. "A post-mortem has been conducted to ascertain the cause of death. There were no external injuries on the body," said a Tihar Jail officer. On Wednesday, a prisoner in the special security ward, Salman, had died after he was attacked by a fellow inmate. On Sunday, the body of 38-year-old Sirajuddin was found hanging in a toilet. Earlier this month, the body of Amolkar, 40, was found hanging inside jail number three. Amolkar's body was found less than 12 hours after another inmate Vinod, 26, died of a suspected epileptic fit. |

New Delhi, September 19 The team is headed by Mahendra Pandey, Dr. Dinesh Goswami and Dr. Rahul. Medicines worth Rs. 2 lakh were also to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the flood-affected areas, said national spokesperson for the BJP Shahnawaz Hussain. Hussain said the duty of the doctors is to serve the humanity and today they are going to the state which is suffering from natural disaster and also has been facing the danger of terrorism. By doing so, they have demonstrated their patriotism and duty to humanity. Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said so far the Delhi BJP has sent 10 trucks of relief material to Jammu and Kashmir which includes medicines worth Rs. 16 lakh. |
