Tribune News Service

New Delhi, Sept ember 17
A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped in a moving car by two men, who are her live-in partner's friends, in south Delhi on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The police have detained two men, including her alleged live-in partner, who was driving the car when the incident took place. They are searching for the third accused.

At about 1.30 am today, an autorickshaw driver noticed the woman near the Nehru Place flyover. He dialled 100 and informed the police about the woman whose clothes were somewhat torn and she was wandering aimlessly. A Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle reached the spot and the PCR staff suspected that the woman might have been assaulted. They took her to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in south Delhi, where her medical examination confirmed that she was raped.

Following the confirmation, the police registered a case in regard to the rape at the Kalkaji police station. They caught two of the accused early this morning.

"The woman was not fit to give her statement to us immediately. We waited until this morning and after she identified the accused, we sent the police teams to catch them," said a police officer.

The woman in her statement told the police that she is a resident of Geeta Colony where she lives with her partner. On Tuesday evening, her partner arrived home in his car. When she came out of her apartment, she saw two other friends of her partner seated in the car.

"She was seated at the back seat. After some time, the accused stopped the car to buy a cold drink. She claims that she was given the drink and then she lost consciousness after a while," said the officer.

According to the police, the victim was then raped in the moving car and dropped near the Kalkaji area from where she began walking until she was noticed by the autorickshaw driver.

"The woman underwent counselling and her mother has been informed," said the officer.

Sources claimed that the victim's father had passed away a few years ago. Her mother stays with her aunt in east Delhi. The aunt is reportedly a Delhi Police constable. However, the police did not reveal any details.

DU teachers seek VC's scalp
DUTA office-bearers submitted a memo to the HRD Minister
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 17
Stepping up the ante against the Delhi University administration, teachers, students and karamcharis today gathered under the banner of the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) at Jantar Mantar to demand the removal of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Singh and institute a visitorial inquiry into the alleged "irregularities" in the university functioning.

They called for withdrawal of "vindictive" measures by the administration against teachers in the matters of pension and promotions and starting of regular permanent recruitment for the 4700 vacant teaching posts with correct reservation roster.

In this regard, a delegation of DUTA office-bearers and the DUCKU general secretary also met the Human Resources and Development Minister Smriti Irani and submitted a memorandum during the day.

The DUTA president Nandita Narain expressed concern about the fact that despite being "thoroughly discredited", the VC has been put on important government-appointed committees on higher education.

"The VC has been resorting to victimising teachers who have raised their voice against him and especially after the scrapping of the four-year undergraduate programme, he has been more vindictive. We have submitted a white paper already and are demanding that he be removed. The minister responded positively and promised to give serious consideration to all the issues raised in the memorandum. In particular, she emphasised the determination of the ministry to expedite the process of making permanent appointment of teachers and non-teaching staff," said the DUTA president.

New Delhi, September 17
The decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found at a NTPC dumping ground in south-east Delhi's Jaitpur locality this morning, after a local informed the police that he saw stray dogs eating a human leg, while the rest of the body lay buried.

According to the police, there were injury marks on the woman's face. It appeared to them that she was murdered and dumped there at least two days ago. They are waiting for her postmortem report to ascertain if she was sexually assaulted before being murdered.

The police said that the matter came to light when a local of Jaitpur dialled 100 to inform the police that some stray dogs were digging for something, which looked like a human body. The caller informed the police that he saw a human leg, which was being eaten by stray dogs.

Dwarka-Najafgarh Metro line drops one station
Himani Chandel
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 17
The increased habitation along the proposed line of Dwarka-Najafgarh corridor has made the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) drop a station and reduce the length of the track by approximately one kilometre.

The extension of Dwarka line till Najafgarh was earlier proposed to be of 5.5 kilometres along with four stations, but due to public representations aggrieving about the alignment and to avoid heavy demolition, the DMRC has changed the route of the corridor and reduced the length to 4.4 kilometres with three stations.

"There has been rapid development along the alignment after the detailed project report which might have required heavy demolition. Therefore, to address the interests of the people, the changes have been made," said a senior Delhi Transport official.

The length of the elevated section of the corridor will be 2.75 kilometres. "The construction of an elevated corridor would have resulted in the demolition of a lot of buildings. In order to meet the public demand and avoid such inconvenience to the people, the last part of the alignment is planned to be made as underground," said the official.

The three stations on the corridor will be constructed at Dwarka (elevated), Najafgarh Depot (elevated) and Municipal Corporation (underground).

This corridor will provide easy access to the commuters residing in Najafgarh, Mitraon, Jharoda Kalan, Kair, Dichaon Kalan, Dindarpur Extn., Baba Haridas Nagar, Chhawla, Roshanpura, Shyam Vihar, Dharmpura, Sai Baba Enclave, Nangli Sakravati, Arjun Park, Roshan Garden, Shiva Enclave, Todarmal Colony, Prem Nagar, New Hira Park, Ajay Park, Nathu Ram Park, Gemini Park, Shiva Enclave, Raghubir Nagar etc.

The official said that there was a public demand to take the Metro towards the Dhansa bus stand in Najafgarh which would be possible only by making the last station of the corridor as underground. The entire stretch will be on broad gauge and will be opened for commuter operations by December 2016. In 2016, about 76,000 commuters are expected to travel by this corridor.
