Kanungo held for graft: The Vigilance Bureau claimed to have caught red handed kanungo Jarnail Singh accepting a bribe of 
Rs 10,000 from farmer Ranjit Singh of Baghrian village. Jarnail allegedly took the bribe to execute a mutation. A case has been registered.

Lecture at Pbi varsity: The Department of Punjab Historical Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala, on Friday organised Dr Ganda Singh Memorial Lecture. Prof Romila Thapar, Professor Emeritus, JNU, New Delhi, delivered a lecture on "Interpretations of early Indian history". Dr AS Chawla, Dean, Academic Affairs, presided over the function. Prof Thapar dwelled on the colonial and nationalist view of Indian history. She said that ancient Indian history was very important and should not be ignored.

Nagra-SDM spat: Congress seeks officer’s transfer: Congress workers of Sirhind on Friday demanded transfer of SDM Pooja Syal Grewal for allegedly maligning Congress MLA Kuljeet Singh Nagra at a municipal council meeting held on Monday. A party delegation said MLA Nagra did not abuse anyone.

Minor raped: The Fazilka police on Friday arrested a quack of Ghattianwali Bodla village for allegedly abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl. The police said Rajinder Singh allegedly abducted the girl, took her to his clinic and raped her. The medical examination of the girl was conducted at the local civil hospital on Thursday.

Census officials honoured: Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Friday gave away the President’s census medals and certificates of honour to officers and employees for their work during Census 2011.

Haryana stock sale: The state government has notified the sale of Haryana Government Stock (securities) of 10-year tenure for an aggregate amount of Rs 1,000 crore (nominal). The proceeds of the loan will be utilised to finance the state plan outlay. 

Kabaddi trials on Sunday: The state Sports and Youth Affairs Department will conduct trials to select the state Kabaddi team in Bhiwani on September 21 for the All India Civil Service Kabaddi Tournament 2014-15 to be held in Puducherry from October 8 to 10.

Pooja tops MDU Rohtak: Pooja Gahlan, a student of local GVM Girls College and resident of Panipat’s Dehra village, has topped MDU Rohtak in BSc by securing 90.45 per cent after the 6th semester result. She is the topper in the final results of all other streams of graduation in the university.

Jalandhar man dies in Una mishap :Vinod Kumar of Jalandhar was killed when his motorcycle (PB-12K 3826) met with an accident with a truck (HP-23C 4449) on the Swan river bridge near Ghaluwal village here last night. The victim died on way to the district hospital.
