50 booked for abducting girl

The Meharban police booked 50 residents, including Parmajit Singh his son and wife, of Machian Kalan village for allegedly kidnapping a girl whose brother had reportedly eloped with Paramjit Singh’s daughter yesterday. However, no arrest was made till the filing of the report.

42 hospitals, clinics put on notice

Fortytwo leading hospitals that fall in Zone D have been issued notices for not providing parking space as per the prescribed norms. They have been warned of proceedings under contempt of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The notices were issued last evening.

Fleeing thieves set shop on fire

Thieves broke into a shop at Sawadi Kalan village last night and decamped with goods worth Rs 20,000. They set the shop on fire after stealing the goods.

Acting runs in their blood. Members of the Khera family have been essaying different roles in Ramlila for the past more than 40 years. It is their third generation, which is keeping the tradition alive. It was Dhayan Chand, father of Raj Kumar Khera, who started a drama club named the Society Drama Club, which later became the Durga Dramatic Club. It is still being run by his son and grandsons.

Cycle rally
The United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) Cycling Club is organising a cycling rally on October 2. The rally will being from the association office at 5.30 am. The participants will ride up to Alamgir Gurdwara, and after paying obeisance will ride back to the UCPMA office. The association will provide breakfast to all participants.


CRIME

Illicit liquor seized
Dehlon, September 27
The police today seized 290 boxes of illegal liquor from two vehicles. While the driver of one of the vehicles was held, the other managed to flee. Both have been booked under Section 61 of the Excise Act. The police also confiscated the vehicles: a tempo (PB-13-R-4537) and an Indigo car (PB-10-CE-7306).
