Abohar, December 19
Two incidents of looting were reported in Abohar. Two bikers stole Rs 95,000 from a scooter parked on the college road here today. BSF jawan Amrish Kumar stated to the police that he withdrew Rs 95,000 from a bank and locked it in his scooter. On his way to the BSF sector headquarter, he parked the scooter outside a State Bank ATM located near the DAV campus to withdraw some more money.

While he was in the ATM cabin, two persons came on motorcycle bearing registration number PB 02 7822, broke open the lock of the scooter and decamped with the money.

DSP Raj Kumar Jalhotra, who reached the spot, said it would be verified whether the number plate was genuine.

It appeared that the bikers were chasing the BSF jawan after he had withdrawn money from a bank located in the old city area.

As the police was investigating the loot on the college road, a message received from village Shergarh said that bikers have looted Rs 60,000 from a farmer. The CIA staff rushed to the village that forms a part of Balluana segment. The victim, Amar Singh, said he withdrew Rs 60,000 from the Street 10 branch of the Oriental Bank of Commerce in Abohar and boarded a bus for his native village. As he alighted in the Shergarh market, bikers snatched the bag containing cash and fled. He had noticed some unidentified persons using TVS and Discover motorcycles chasing the bus but could not guess that they were miscreants.

Tribune News Service

Muktsar, December 19
The affiliation of a majority of youth clubs in Muktsar district has been cancelled after the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), an autonomous body of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, found that they were being run by persons aged more than 35 years.

The NYKS has cancelled the affiliation of 40 out of total 45 youth clubs in the district. Now, the NYKS has sought fresh applications from those willing to affiliate their clubs with it, in order to claim monetary benefit. To promote sports in rural areas, the NYKS also distributes sports kits to clubs there.

The NYKS aims at identifying areas to harness youth power towards nation-building activities, by opening clubs in villages. Such clubs are voluntary action groups of persons in the age group of 13-35 years and work for community development and youth empowerment.

The district coordinator of the NYKS, Jagjit Singh Mann, said, "After the allotment of an office here in August this year, I cancelled the affiliation of nearly 40 youth clubs, which were only named as youth clubs but were being run by persons aged about 50 years."

"The rules say youth clubs being run by persons over 35 years of age ought to be de-affiliated. After receiving fresh applications, we have so far affiliated 12 youth clubs in the district," Mann added.
