Tortured for dowry, woman ends life

Phagwara, June 25
Balwinder Kaur allegedly committed suicide by consuming celphos tablets at the house of her in-laws in Nawanpind Naincha village on Sunday. SHO Goraya Sarabjit Rai said Balwinder, a mother of two daughters and a son, was taken to Mahal Hospital, Goraya, where she breathed her last on sunday night.

Baldev Raj, the brother of the deceased, alleged that his sister was tortured both physically and mentally for more dowry since her wedding in 2000. Though she took the extreme step yesterday as she could not tolerate the torture. SHO Rai said the police has registered case under Section 306/34 of the IPC against her in-laws, but no arrest has been made so for.
