Markets fail to learn from fire incidents
Chandigarh, June 25

With vacations on, burglaries on rise
Chandigarh, June 25
Returning from a fun-filled vacation to find their locked doors broken and houses ransacked is giving a harrowing time to a large number of residents. Burglary incidents are on the rise in the summer months, with the police failing to take stock of the situation. On an average, three thefts have been reported in a day this month.

Protesting against implementation of the Clinical Establishment Act, private doctors of the tricity resorted to a one-day strike here today. The strike was jointly called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) and Indian Dental Associations of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.

In a development that is set to delay the progress of different ongoing housing projects of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), the appointment of a regular Chief Engineer in the board has been delayed.

Mohali residents groan under power cuts

Pooja Sharma, a Phase VII resident, was forced to take leave from her job today. Reason: She along with her family had spent a sleepless night in the absence of power, which remained suspended for about four hours from around 11.30 pm to 3.15 am in the area yesterday.

Sec-42 lake attracts visitors
Chandigarh, June 25
For a change, residents of the southern sectors are better placed when it comes to visiting a lake that is full of water. While the Sukhna Lake, a major tourist attraction in the city, has dried up and the UT Administration has started desilting it on a larger scale, the Sector-42 lake, which was specially created for religious ceremonies like Chatt Pooja, still attracts visitors in large numbers, as it is still brimming with life. Being fed by two regularly running tube-wells and a supply line of the municipal corporation (MC), the artificial lake is attracting the visitors in hordes.

Mayor’s ward cries for attention

What can residents of the City Beautiful expect when even the ward of the Mayor of the city cries for attention in taking care of its basic amenities. Road berms are strewn with piles of garbage, particularly tree leaves mixed with plastic waste at different places in the ward.

BECC beat Mahamaya Club to win CSF cricket cup

Black Elephant Cricket Club (BECC) won the CSF Cricket Cup defeating Mahamaya Club, Ghaziabad, by 3-0 at host BECC grounds. Winning the toss, the BECC team scored 200 for 7 in the 30 over match. An opening partnership of 76 runs between Tanish and Dilprit laid a solid base for the BECC middle order. Later, a quick fire 36 off 23 balls by Jashan helped the hosts pile up a huge target.

Youth throws acid on girl, attacks her with knife
Ambala, June 25
A youth threw acid on a girl and later attacked her with knife in railway colony at Ambala Cantonment here this evening. The girl was rushed to the Civil Hospital. Later, the doctors referred her to the PGI, Chandigarh following her serious condition.

Youth found murdered
Dera Bassi, June 25
A youth was found murdered near Lalru Mandi here today in mysterious conditions. The deceased had been identified as Hardip Singh (19), son of Balbir, a resident of Karouola near Rajpura. He was living in Amarpuri colony, Lalru Mandi.

2 motorcyclists killed in mishap
Fatehgarh Sahib, June 25
Two motorcyclists died in a head on collision with a car on Fatehgarh Sahib Chuni road near Badali Ala Singh here last night. One of the motorcyclists was identified as Lovely resident of Balahri Kalan, who died on the spot, whereas another motorcyclist identified as Harjit Singh, a resident of Balahri Kalan, died in a hospital at Mohali.

ATM fraud: 3-day remand extended

The court today extended three-day remand to the three accused, who have been arrested by the state cyber crime cell, Punjab, for duping several banks, particularly Federal bank of crores of rupees through fraudulent transactions, using ATM cards of different other banks.

Man commits suicide
Mohali, June 25 A 34-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan at his residence at Phase XI this evening. The deceased has been identified as Kamal Verma, who was dealing in vehicles sale and purchase business.

Snatcher nabbed
Chandigarh, June 25
A prompt action by public help apprehend a snatcher red-handed in Sector 61 today. Ashok Kumari, a resident of house number 3131, Sector 52, was on foot when a snatcher on a speeding motorcycle snatched her gold earring. The woman slipped and fell on the road.

AG Uttar Pradesh beat AG Himachal to reach finals
Chandigarh, June 25
The table tennis team of AG Uttar Pradesh defeated AG Himachal Pradesh (HP) by 3-2 to reach the finals of ongoing North Zone Table-Tennis Tournament being held at the Table Tennis hall of Sector 23 here today.
In the event final, Amit from AG Uttar Pradesh defeated Ankur Behl of AG Himachal Pradesh by 3-1. Earlier in the semi-final, he defeated Jaswant of AG HP by 3-1.

The Livewire Cricket Coaching Centre, Sector 46, will organise the first "Bribe Free Nation T-20 cricket tournament" at Divya Public School. The tournament will be held from July 15.
