Powercom restores supply to get officials freed
Tarn Taran, June 18 The farmers under the banner of Kisan Sangarash Committee (KSC) were staging dharna since last after noon at 66KV sub station, Dubli demanding to restore power supply. The Powercom had dropped power supply of Dubli-Jour Singh Wala feeder when its enforcement team visited the village to check load of the tube wells. They had been imposing fine against the sanctioned load at the rate of Rs 3800 per horse power. The farmers under the leadership of Sukhwant Singh Dubli, Inderjit Singh Kot Budha and Major Singh Pringri farmer leaders gheroaed the team protesting that the farmers had been demanding for Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) to get the extended load to be sanctioned. The team had to go back without checking the load. Soon after the power supply of feeder Dubli-Jour Singh Wala was stopped. The farmers of the feeder reached the sub station and staged dharna infront of the station yesterday.The farmers staged the dharna whole night and continued even today. Rama Chandran the SDO gird station, JE and another employee remained detained in the office the whole night by the agitating
farmers. The farmers had been demanding restoration of the power supply. A team of the powercom under the supervision of Jait Kumar duty Magistrate -cum-Tehsildar, Patti held a series of talk with the agitating farmers today and the Powercom had to announce the restoration of the power supply of the feeder. The Powercom was represented by Er Satnam Singh, Er Maninderjit Singh and Harwinder Singh. DSP Patti Kuljit Singh and DSP Bhikhiwind Dilbag Singh was also present in the meeting. Kanwalpreet Pannu state Convener of the KSC condemned the move of the officials to drop power supply of the farmers saying that it had caused a heavy loss of paddy crop of the farmers. The KSC lifted its dharna only after when the officials announced to restore power supply. |

Water coolers installed without power connections
Phagwara, June 18 In a function, the Chief Parliamentry Secretary, Som Parkash, in the presence of BJP and Congress leaders including Former Minister Joginder Singh Maan inaugurated the water coolers and the present leaders showered the words of praise for the social service. When contacted Phagwara Station Superintendent Ashok Kumar said, “Neither any power connection was sanctioned, nor any site was allotted by the railways, yet these water coolers were installed .no information about any such sanction to install these water coolers was their .Though it is an appreciable step to serve cold water to the thirsty rail passengers, but it should be done by obeying the rules only”. |

Apples grow in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur, June 17 To his surprise two plants have developed well and have produced more than 60 apples for the first time during the current season. Darshan Kumar said that he had purchased three saplings of apple fruit as usual from a private fruit plant nursery of the area. These had been planted in the mill premises of which two had developed and had produced more then 60 pieces of apple fruit for the first time. He had simply provided cow dung manure to these plants. Besides providing apple fruit these plants will also be helpful in pollution control and making the environment neat and clean in the area.

Nawanshahr, June 18 In the raid a nine-year-old boy, working at Avtar Auto Works, Asmanpur was rescued. Giving details, the Labour Inspector, Surinder Singh said that the errant owner have been challaned under the Section 3 of Child Labour Actand the boy was handed over to his parent. |
Five booked for gambling
Hoshiarpur, June 18 The police recovered Rs 45,200 from them while they were gambling. |
