ASI assaulted at Kapurthala police post

In a bizarre incident, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Surinder Pal, has been assaulted in Mithra police post falling under the Fattu Dhinga police station of Kapurthala district.

The turban of police post in charge ASI Surinder Pal was also removed as three persons, identified as Sadhu Singh and his sons Ninder Pal and Surinder Singh of Kahna village, attacked him.

Confirming the incident, SSP SS Mann said a first information report (FIR) was registered against the accused under Sections 186, 352, 353, 295, 506, 427 and 34 of the IPC on the ASI’s statement at the Fattu Dhinga police station.

The two accused, Sadhu Singh and his son Ninder Pal, were arrested. The third accused, Surinder Pal, is still at large.

The ASI had called two parties at the police post in connection with a clash over a piece of land at village Kahna on Saturday.

While the three members of a party reached the police post, no member from the other party arrive. At this, one of the members of the former party said they should go now as no member from the other party arrived. Subsequently the ASI said: “How can you go like this. You should wait for some more time for the other party.”

At this, Sadhu Singh and his sons allegedly assaulted the ASI and some other policemen present at the police post.

A ruling Akali leader reportedly tried to shield the accused, but the police did not succumb to the pressure saying that they had attacked policemen that too at the police post.
