Jalandhar, June 1
Up in arms against the oil marketing companies, the Jalandhar Petrol Pump Dealers’ Association has termed the frequent hike in petrol prices a cruel joke not only with the consumer, but also with the dealers across the country.

Association members said the companies had been demanding price hike in view of the losses, but interestingly they showed three time profit in their financial results two days ago.

Association general secretary Monti Sehgal said the HPCL chairman in his statement agreed to roll back Rs 2 in petrol prices first giving a flip of Rs 7.54 on May 24.

The companies have a nexus following which they have been first increasing and the rolling back the hike.

The modus operand of the companies is that they first creating scarcity of oil indicating price hike and force the dealers to purchase their quota in buck. As the dealers full their tanks, the companies again announced roll back and force the dealers to sell the oil on much lesser rates thus causing them huge losses.

The oil companies are making crores by adopting his ‘trick’ for almost thrice in last couple of months, claimed Sehgal.

There are over 300 odd petrol pumps in Jalandhar district alone and the exact loss caused by the companies to them could be well imagined, he questioned.
