In the aftermath of the hike in petrol prices, garment manufacturers and dry cleaners are all set to increase the prices of their products and services.
The increase in petrol prices will lead to a rise in the cost of garments by 40-45 per cent and dry cleaning services by 20 per cent.
Man gets 10-yr for rape

Sessions Judge Gobinder Singh Matharoo has convicted Paramjit Singh, a resident of Haibowal Kalan, of rape.
He was sentenced to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and was told to pay Rs 5,000 as fine.
5 kg opium seized at Machchiwara

The Machchiwara police has claimed to have arrested a man and seized 5 kg of opium from his possession. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samrala Tejbir Singh and Station House Officer (SHO) Machchiwara Harjinder Singh said at a press conference that a police party nabbed the accused during a routine check here last night.
Close shave for passengers as bus overturns
Khanna, June 1
Passengers had a miraculous escape when the bus in which they were travelling overturned near
Khanna, but four LPG cylinders that were in the bus did not explode. As many as 24 passengers were, however, injured in the accident.
Three cylinders were filled and the fourth was being used to cook a meal during the journey. Fear gripped passengers who thought the cylinders would explode.

Poll code delaying opening of bridge
Ludhiana, June 1
The opening of the Gill Road Bridge located on the Sidhwan Canal Expressway project has been delayed further. PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon had on March 31 announced that this bridge would be opened to vehicular traffic by May 30. But, the project remains incomplete even after passing of this deadline.

It seems that the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is helpless in controlling the menace of temporary encroachments in
Janakpuri. A few ‘rehri’ owners, most of whom are vegetable vendors, operate by stationing these in the middle of the road. The municipal officials are aware of this menace, but it seems that they are either not bothered or are not interested in clearing the temporary encroachments.

Pickpockets arrested
Ludhiana, June 1
Two pickpockets were nabbed by residents during a chabeel at Gill road today.
This incident took place today afternoon when the duo mingled in the crowd and started stealing
money from the pockets of those who stopped to drink sweetened water.
