Weekly power cuts cause huge losses to industrialists
Hoshiarpur, October 3 The Senior Manager of Kakkar Steels Complex Private Limited, Darshan Kumar, lamented that with the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the country, most of the labourers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh had either shifted to their respective states or had increased their labour charges. By imposing four-day uninterrupted power cut, the PSPCL had added fuel to their problem. Now, more than 60 per cent of production in Kumar’s units had gone down. The discontinuing of benefits to the industrialists by the state government had also discouraged the existing industrial units to restrict their activities in the state. Kumar urged the Punjab government to arrange regular power supply for them so that they could run their units smoothly. |

Border Security Force seizes heroin worth
Rs 8 crore Gurdaspur, October 3 Addressing a press conference at the BFS headquarters here today, DIG PS Bains said some people managed to smuggle the contraband from across border and buried it yards away from the wire. An alert Jawan Anuj Kumar of the 38th Battalion of the Dera Baba Nanak sector, after getting suspicious yesterday, managed to scoop out the drugs, which were packed and sealed with tapes, from the freshly dug up earthen cavity. He immediately informed his seniors who took possession of the contraband. After testing it with their own kits, the BSF authorities came to the conclusion that the drug was high quality heroin. Since nobody has claimed the dope, the contraband will be sent to the Chandigarh based Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further testing. The DIG claimed that this was the biggest ever seizure effected by the BSF this year. Last year the security force had confiscated 31 kg of high quality heroin from near the border.
