Kapurthala, September 28
The Punjab Local Bodies Department has issued a show-cause notice to Kapurthala Municipal Council president, Paramjit Singh Pamma.

Pamma has to explain within three weeks why he should not be removed from his post as he had failed to hold monthly meetings of the MC. The local bodies’ Principal Secretary, SS Rajput, issued the notice to Pamma on a complaint of an Akali councillor.

The local bodies department further stated that if the reply was not filed within the stipulated time, ex-prate proceedings would be initiated against him.

Sources in the MC confirmed that the notice had been received, but it was not sent to Pamma as he was out of station.

Terming the show-cause notice as politically motivated, Pamma said a conspiracy had been hatched by his rivals to remove him from his post. This is primarily because he has joined the PPP, along with several councillors, while a senior Akali leader and former minister Raghbir Singh have joined former finance minister led political party.

“Section 25 of the Punjab Municipal Act states that it is not mandatory to hold one meeting of the council every month,” he said. “There are many Municipal Councils which had not convened even ten meetings since coming to power.”

Kapurthala MC President said he had convened MC meetings in July and August. However, he admitted that the Kapurthala MC failed to hold meetings from the months of February to June this year.

Batala, September 28
The police has declared two accused, identified as Yadvinder Singh Bhullar and Deep Raj Singh, as proclaimed offenders in the murder of Canada-based NRI, Gurinder Singh Gill.

The police has not yet been able to get hold of the car, which was used by the assailants during the murder.

The SSP, Gurkirpal Singh, and Investigating Officer (IO) DSP, Sakattar Singh, said both Bhullar and Deep Raj will be soon arrested.”

Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa and hundreds of other Congressmen, including former Batala MLA Ashwani Sekhri, lifted their siege only after the SSP assured them that cops would arrest accused within 48 hours. “I know the police are acting under pressure from certain Akali leaders. From the very first day, I have been asking for a CBI inquiry,” Randhawa said.

Sukhraj Singh Gill, cousin of the deceased, said, “I have the video of the post-mortem in my possession and it is clear that the body bore more bullet injuries than are being shown in the report.” A doctor, who was part of the three member panel that conducted the post-mortem examination, vehemently denied the claim.

Karanjit Singh, a counsel of the deceased, claimed, “I have concrete information that Yadvinder Singh Bhullar is openly roaming around in the streets of Amritsar.”
