Champions League T20 Chennai, September 28 Chasing a target of 140 and needing 17 runs from the last over, NSW fell one run short to tie the match and take it to the first Super Over Eliminator of the tournament. In the Super Over Eliminator, NSW batted first and scored 18 for no loss with Moises Henriques smashing four fours and a two off Ravi
Rampaul. T&T, who looked set for a win in the normal play before losing the plot in the final over, could score 14 off Steve O'Keefe to slump to their second successive loss in the tournament. Earlier, NSW made a steady start in their chase of 140 by reaching 67 for two after 10 overs, but lost the way suddenly before being saved by the heroics of Henriques and Pat Cummins in the final over, which in the end proved crucial in registering their first win of the tournament. Brief Scores: CSK beat Cobras Defending champions Chennai Super Kings wobbled a bit before defeating Cape Cobras by four wickets here today. Earlier, Owais Shah and J P Duminy chipped in with useful contributions as Cape Cobras set Chennai Super Kings a modest target of 146. Cobras, who at one stage looked set to score over 170, were done in by pacer Albie Morkel, who put the breaks on the visitors' scoring rate by claiming two important wickets. At the end of 16th over, Cobras were comfortably placed at 124 for three, thanks to some brisk batting by Shah and Duminy. — PTI |
india v eng ODI Series
Chennai, September 28 Apart from Tendulkar and Yuvraj, there is also a question mark over Virender Sehwag's fitness alongwith a host of other players who suffered injuries during India's disastrous tour of England recently. While the selectors, who meet on Thursday, may find the replacements in the batting department, the bowling unit is of more concern as three premier speedsters in Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel are out of contention. The first two games of the five-match ODI series against England will be played in Hyderabad on October 14 and New Delhi on October 17. The other matches will be held in Mohali (Oct 20), Mumbai (Oct 23) and Kolkata (Oct 25). Tendulkar, who was ruled out of the last ODI series in England due to a toe injury, is yet to play a match in the Champions League Twenty20 and indications are that he may miss out the first two matches. Sehwag, who had hearing problems as well as recuperating from shoulder surgery, may also have to sit out of the first two one-dayers though there is still no clear indication on his fitness status. The good news is that Gautam Gambhir has recovered fully and he has now played two matches for KKR in the ongoing Champions League and should be back in the team. Similarly Harbhajan Singh's name would also come up for consideration as the stand-in captain of Mumbai Indians appeared to have regained full fitness from the stomach injury as he has contributed with both bat and ball. Among the batsmen, the certainties are skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Parthiv Patel and young Ajinkya Rahane. With Rohit Sharma yet to recover from his fractured finger, Manoj Tiwary who was rushed on SOS during last England series is likely to retain his place along with Subramanium Badrinath. The bowling still remains a concern as save Praveen Kumar, none of the other premier fast bowlers are fit. Although paceman Ashish Nehra's name is doing the rounds, he has not played a single competitive match since World Cup semifinal against Pakistan. But with the team in desperate need for some experience, the services of the 32-year-old left-arm seamer with 120 ODIs behind his may be sought. The name of Karnataka left-arm seamer Sreenath Aravind, who has impressed for RCB in T20 format, could also come up discussion when the selectors meet on Thursday. For the third seamer's role, the likes of R Vinay Kumar, Varun Aaron, Umesh Yadav, Ashok Dinda will be fighting for the pace-bowling slots. Among the spinners, Harbhajan Singh and Ashwin may both find place in the line-up along with Ravindra Jadeja who will be the lone all-rounder in side with his handy batting and slow left-arm orthodox. left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha was also in the fray.

Kolkata, September 28 The much-awaited encounter between the two sides — both have already qualified for the AFC Cup on the the basis of their performance in the I-League and the ongoing tournament respectively — will be a repeat of the summit clash in 1997 when the Goans prevailed 2-1. Cut to this edition, East Bengal did not look convincing in their wins, with dubious refereeing in their match against Dempo and Prayag United SC playing a role in their passage to the final. The reigning I-League champions, on the other hand, have been clinical in their approach and are yet to concede a goal after four matches (three in quarterfinal group league and one in semifinal). More than winning the title, the final will give East Bengal coach James Morgan an opportunity to set the record straight against a side, which pipped his boys for the I-League crown last season. However, it will not be easy for the Englishman as he will have to make do with a half-fit Mehtab Hussain, the playmaker who gives thurst to East Bengal's attack. Hussain, who has been chosen the 'Best Player' of the country recently, is grappling with a groin injury that ruled him out of the semifinal, along with defender Raju Gaikwad. Known for his bold decisions, it will be interesting to see Morgan's ploy in case Hussain and Gaikwad fail the fitness test before kick-off. In their last match, Morgan was not afraid to bench the seasoned Orji Penn in place of new recruit Alan Gow. It's a move that did not pay immediate result but Morgan persisted with the duo as United SC faltered before conceding two red cards.

One day I decided that I would start again and so I took up a small job. I had to discontinue my studies because I could either afford to study or do this. Later, I took financial help from relatives and opened a gym which helped me sustain my bodybuilding. Now I am not only practicing but have also resumed my studies,” he added. Rajesh is currently doing his M.PEd. from the National College of Physical Education, Chupki, which is affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala.
