Nakodar, September 19
The Dhussi Bundh erosion which started on Saturday at village Baopur in Shahkot continues to be a haunting experience for the officials of the Drainage Department. Latest reports reveal that soil erosion has begun at other vulnerable points of the embankments as well and this has forced the government to increase the work force.

The SDO drainage, Harish Kumar, said that to control soil erosion was not as easy a task as it seems because it could occur anywhere in the bundh at any point in time. At what point would it emerge and from which point of the bundh, that can’t be determined in advance. Along with the 125 government labourers, the help of eco-activist Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal and Baba’s sewadars, the bundh-strengthening work today was done at a good pace.

The state Revenue Minister, Ajit Singh Kohar today took stock of the ongoing bundh-strengthening work and also applauded the efforts of Sant Seechewal. The minister also assured all possible help to control the situation. He also extended a helping hand in the ongoing bundh repair work.

Many villagers were also seen extending help to mend the eroding bundh. Officials maintained that at this moment, it was not possible to fix any time frame for completion of ongoing work, till then a strict vigil was needed to be kept at vulnerable points of the bundh. Now the water level in the Sutlej is at around 29,000 cusecs.
