GMCH 60 senior residents on mass casual leave today
Chandigarh, September 19
Medical services, including emergency, are likely to be severely hit at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, tomorrow as over 60 senior residents (SRs), who are manning a majority of services at the hospital, have decided to go on a mass casual leave to protest against the administration's failure to fill up vacancies.

Home Guard held for theft at police station

A Home Guard volunteer with the Chandigarh Police, who is the son of a UT police Sub-Inspector, was today arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle belonging to his father’s colleague, also a Sub-Inspector, from the parking premises of a police station.

Apparently acting under political pressure of the ruling group, the Mohali police today slapped a case of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act against the victims who were injured in the yesterday’s firing incident at Kurali.

One more child missing from Snehalaya was recovered by the UT police from New Delhi today. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) BS Negi, the child, identified as Raju, was recovered from Balgiri Ashram in old Delhi.

UT yet to set up Consumer Protection Council

Even though Chandigarh is leading the country on the judicial front of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), with the highest average percentage disposal rate of 97 per cent yet on the administrative side, the city has failed to establish any Consumer Protection Council (CPC) even after 25 years of the enactment of the CPA in 1986.

Hostel allotment to go online next year

In a bid to lend transparency to its hostel allotment system, Panjab University, has decided to make its hostel admissions online from next year and is already working towards developing a new software.

18-month jail term for engineer in graft case

CBI special judge Ritu Tagore today awarded one-and-a-half-year imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 8,000, to a former engineer in connection with a corruption case dating back to January, 2009.

HC wants to know clean-up measures

Reliance told to pay Rs 16,800 vehicle damage claim

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed Reliance General Insurance Company to indemnify the loss on non-standard basis and pay Rs 16,800 along with 15 per cent interest to a Sector-30 resident towards the payment for the repair of his vehicle.

Local lad makes it to jr Indian cricket team
