Power Utilities to challenge order Chandigarh, August 28 The SERC had issued the order on August 16. Official sources here said that a petition was being prepared by the Power Utilities for putting up before the SERC for reviewing its earlier order. The review petition would be filed before September 16 in view of the stipulation that an order by the SERC could not be challenged after one month of the day the order was issued. The sources said that one of the areas of dispute between SERC and the Power Utilities was about the limit imposed on the latter by the former regarding borrowing for working capital. While the Power Utilities had sought the limit on borrowing for working capital to be fixed at Rs 1600 crore, the SERC brought down the limit to Rs 300 crore. A letter from the Central Government endorsing the steps taken by the Power Utilities in this particular area, which reached here two days after the order was issued by the SERC, had brightened the chance of SERC accepting the Utilities’ demand, official sources felt. The Power Utilities would also challenge the SERC’s directive in the ARR regarding the amount of electricity to be made available to the consumers. |
