Petrol pump case: Estate Officer files application Ambala, August 27 The application on behalf of the Estate Officer, was filed in the court of Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) through this counsel Mr Subhash Bhatnagar today. The Estate Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, Mr
D.D. Gautam, has pointed out in the application that the interest of the government is involved as the applicant (Mr Gautam) is managing the government land. “If the applicant is not impleaded a party to the suit, the rights and interest of the government will not be safeguarded and multifarious proceedings will follow,” the application states. The application states that the court has restrained the defendant from constructing anything on the property in dispute. “The defendant wants to raise construction/ encroachment over the government land without obtaining prior sanction from the competent authority. The Estate Officer has been empowered by the Haryana Government notification dated April 2, 1999,” the application states. “The defendant vide CWP no./LP no. 95/98, challenged the order dated November 10, 1997 of the single judge and the said LPA no.95 of 1997 was also dismissed on September 30, 1999. The defendant has also challenged the said order dated September 30, 1999 before the Supreme Court of India which has been admitted and status quo has been ordered.” “That under the garb of “status quo”. The defendant wants to raise certain construction/encroachment on government land which cannot be allowed,” the application alleges. It is prayed that the Estate Officer, who is a necessary party, may be impleaded as a party to the suit in the interest of justice and fair play. |
Hooda retains all CLP office-bearers Chandigarh, August 27 While Capt Ajay Singh Yadav (Rewari) was retained as Deputy Leader, Mr Jai Prakash (Barwala) is the Chief Whip. Mr Zakir Hussein (Taoru) will be Secretary. Seeking MLAs’ cooperation, Mr Hooda asked them to identify the issues which the party should raise in the forthcoming monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha. The MLAs are believed to have stressed the need to raise various public interest issues, like drought conditions, the police firing on BKU activists and delay in the construction of the SYL Canal, forcibly during the session. Five MLAs — Mr Bhajan Lal, President of the Haryana Congress; Mr O.P. Jindal, Mr Inderjit Singh, Mr Zakir Hussein and Mr Narinder Singh — were absent. However, Mr Bhajan Lal’s son, Mr Chander Mohan, attended. |
40 injured as truck overturns Hisar, August 27 According to the police, they were going to Gogamairi in Rajasthan on a religious tour in a truck. When they reached near Nangthala village, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle lost control over the truck and it overturned. They were taken to the hospital by farmers working in nearby fields. The injured persons were from Bibipur, Nandu Khera and Sahensa villages in Kurukshetra district. The Agroha police has registered a case against the truck driver for negligent driving. |
HIGH COURT Chandigarh, August 27 Delivering the verdict, Mr Justice Jasbir Singh observed: “In a connected matter relating to this very property, the MC had filed a revision that was dismissed by this Court vide orders dated July 4. In this revision, facts are the same and the property in dispute is also the same. The present revision is also dismissed in the same terms”.
Notice issued Taking up a petition filed by the state of Haryana seeking the setting aside of the orders issued by the Lower Courts allowing an application for interim injunction filed by brother of former High Court Judge Mr M.S. Liberhan regarding his property in Ambala, Mr Justice Jasbir Singh of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday issued notice of motion for October 1. The state, in its petition, had earlier contended that a suit was filed for permanent injunction for restraining the state from interfering in the ownership and possession of his property. His application for interim injunction was allowed vide orders dated October 29 last year. It was added that an application was filed before the first appellate Court, but was dismissed on March 18. Claiming that the orders were liable to be set aside, it was further submitted that the same were based on surmises. |
Voter card drive from Sept 1 Kurukshetra, August 27 Giving the details of the campaign the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Mr Abhilaksh Likhi, said a team of photographers, appointed by the Election Commission, would go to every village of the district to photograph new voters. He said the team would visit villages in Thanesar from September 1 to 9, Shahabad from September 11 to 19, and Pehowa from September 21 to 29. Mr Likhi said voters of three constituencies who had lost their voter identity cards could contact the office of the District Election Officer and get a duplicate card for Rs 25. |

Community health centre buildings were being constructed at Kurali (Faridabad), Bond Kalan (Bhiwani), Punhana (Gurgaon) and Ellenabad Odhan (Sirsa). Primary health centres were being set up at Nagina(Gurgaon, Balsamand (Hisar), Rasina(Kaithal), Ujha (Panipat), Badli (Jhajjar), Baniyani (Rohtak), Popra (Karnal) and Alakhpura (Bhiwani), the note added. |

assurance to
teachers on DA Chandigarh, August 27 The demand was made by a delegation of the union which met Education Minister Bahadur Singh here today. The delegation was led by the union President, Mr K.S. Dhillon, and comprised Mr Pawan Sharma, General Secretary; and Mr Attar Singh, Secretary. The union also discussed the proposed reduction in the grant-in-aid to private colleges with the minister. According to Mr Sharma, the minister assured the delegation that the colleges would continue to get the government aid in the present pattern. He also promised to consider the teachers’ demand for D.A. on pension sympathetically. |

boycott shopkeepers Ambala, August 27 An emergency general body meeting of members of the Defence Colony Welfare Association
(DCWA) was held in which the decision to boycott the shopkeepers was taken. A senior retired Army officer stated that the shopkeepers were indulging in anti-colony activities at the instigation of a former
sarpanch. However, a local shopkeeper said the problem was being caused by a former sarpanch who was being supported by a handful of shopkeepers. “We are suffering for no fault of ours. Today morning, they came and told us to down our shutters as the DSP was supposed to come and make inquiries into the matter,” he said. The president of the DCWA Brig

Datta (retd) said an emergency meeting was held in the Elders park. “Its agenda was to apprise the members of the action taken by the welfare association with regard to the incidents of August 8 and 9, in which an unruly mob, led by a former sarpanch of Tundla village, indulged in hooliganism, damaged and uprooted boards in the colony,” he said.
