Speaker
rejects Hooda’s request Chandigarh, August 15 Mr Hooda had written to the Speaker in this regard after the Congress high command appointed him as the leader of the CLP in place of Mr Bhajan Lal. Sources in the Vidhan Sabha say Mr Kadian rejected Mr Hooda’s plea to be recognised as the Leader of the Opposition, who enjoys the status and perks of a Cabinet minister, on the ground that the leader of a legislature party could not be appointed but he had to be elected. Moreover, Mr Hooda’s letter was not accompanied by any resolution adopted by the CLP regarding the election of Mr Hooda as its leader. Mr Hooda’s letter, they say, was not even accompanied by any letter issued by the Congress high command appointing Mr Hooda as the CLP leader. However, the Speaker has accepted Mr Bhajan Lal’s resignation as the Leader of the Opposition after the former Chief Minister a couple of days ago verified his resignation faxed earlier to Mr Kadian. |
