Old land dispute almost took his life
Ludhiana, August 15
An old dispute over the possession of a piece of agricultural land took an ugly turn in which the owner of the land, a physically challenged, man almost lost his life after he was attacked by seven assailants wielding lathis and swords at a village near Phillaur here. The victim, Gulshan Kumar, a resident of Bonkar Dogran village, is recuperating in a local hospital and has lost one finger of his left hand, with multiple fractures in right leg and injuries on the head.

The group differences in the civic body here have deepened as a group of six members out of the elected 11 councillors held a meeting chaired by its president Baldev Singh Aulakh on August 13.

SSP releases Punjabi magazine

Mr Paramjit Singh Sarao, SSP, Khanna, released a Punjabi quarterly magazine ‘International Medical Today’ at Jhauradi village. It was started by Mr Mohan Singh Mann and Mr Dhian Singh Rai, president and secretary, respectively, of the International Medical Helpline and Anti-drug Society. The society is constructing a hospital, de-addiction centre and Mother Teresa Birdh Ashram.

‘One person office’ of United India Insurance Company Ltd. with specialisation in personal line service was inaugurated at New Shivaji Nagar here this morning. This office will be headed by Mr M.S. Chauhan and concentrate primarily on acceptance of personal line insurance business and serve as a ‘micro office’ of the company under the stewardship of Divisional Office No. 11, Ludhiana.

Mr Chander Mohan Kalia, president, and Ms Navraj Kaur, general secretary of the DMCH union, in a press statement today said that the adamant attitude of the management was responsible for the failure of negotiations.
