Ravi Kant should surrender: Chautala Karnal, August 22 He refused to comment further in the Shivani murder case. Asked to comment on the drought in the state, he assured help to the affected people and said as soon as the Central assistance was received, it would be distributed among the farmers. Ample job opportunities would be created so that the people might not face any hardship. He reiterated that the Punjab Government would have to complete the SYL canal as directed by the Supreme Court and Haryana would get its share of water. He said the Congress had sought Rs 10,000 per acre as relief for the farmers without taking into account the budget of the state. The Chief Minister presented a bank draft for Rs 15 lakh to the Deputy Commissioner for the construction of the hostel. He also announced he would donate Rs 1 lakh for the construction. Minister of State for Social Welfare, Risal Singh said such centres were also functioning at Sonepat, Hisar, Gurgaon and Raipur Rani. |
Yamunanagar
Coop Bank closed Yamunanagar, August 22 On the instruction of the Reserve Bank of India that, the Cooperative bank was closed on August 14 driving thousands of depositors from pillar to post to withdraw their money. When contacted on the phone, Mr S S Dhillon, Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Haryana, confirmed the closure of the bank. He said Mr Surinder Singh, Inspector, Cooperative Society at Panchkula, had been appointed liquidator with immediate effect. He stated that he visited Yamunanagar twice a week and added that the claims of the depositors would be settled. He appealed to the depositors not to panic and said within a couple of months payments would be made to them. Mr Dhillon pointed out that the RBI would give licence to the urban bank and would conduct inspection from time to time. He added that if any discrepancy was found the RBI would cancel the licence. Mr O.N. Tiwari, Manager of the bank, stated that there were only eight urban banks in Haryana and 14 employees worked there. He said they applied for a licence to the RBI in 1980, adding that there were 7700 depositors and till March 31, the total deposit was Rs 10. 81 crore. Mr Durga Prasad Misra, a former Director of the bank, said the main purpose of the bank was to give relief to the working class which include workers of Ballarpur Industries, Saraswati Sugar Mills, Haryana Distillery, Indian Sugar, General Engineer Corporation and many more. He said a mercy appeal by the Board of Directors would be sent to the RBI and the Finance Minister of India to review the cancellation of the petition. Mr S.P. Few takers for DIT’s post in Haryana Chandigarh, August 22 The post has once again fallen vacant following Ms Shashi Bala Gulati proceeding on leave. She had reportedly sought leave for more than a month for being in Bangkok on a personal visit. Ms Gulati had joined the office at the end of July and did not even spend a month there before proceeding on leave. She was preceded in the DIT’s office by Mr Ashok Khemka, who also made a quick exit. He was transferred out after having spent 15 to 20 days in the office. Before Mr Khemka, it was Ms Shakuntala Jakhu, who became the DIT and made a hurried exit. Ms Jakhu had gone on leave on health grounds, which she kept extending. Ms Gulati reportedly sought leave for going to Bangkok to attend her nephew’s marriage. Meanwhile, her exit has reaffirmed the reputation of the DIT’s office as one in which bureaucrats do not last long. The Haryana Government has ambitious plans for the IT sector and the game of musical chairs going on in the DIT’s office will not help the state government realise its dreams. In the absence of any Director, it is once again Mr Dharam Vir, Principal Secretary, IT, who will be doing all work in the IT Department. The state government will have to scout hard to find a new officer to take charge as the DIT. Curiously enough, the Technical Education Department, which too is supervised by Mr Dharam Vir, is also facing a similar problem. Ms Anuradha Gupta, who had a good stint as Director of the Higher Education Department, was brought in the Technical Education Department as Director in place of Mr M P Gupta. However, soon after joining Ms Gupta too went on long leave. As Ms Gupta continues to be on leave, the charge of Director, Technical Education, has been given to Mr Sajjan Singh who is already holding the post of MD, Haryana Warehousing Corporation, which entails heavy responsibilities. |

‘indifferent to teachers’ demands Kurukshetra, August 22 Alleging this here today, the Haryana College Teachers’ Union, zonal president, Mr Ravinder Gasso, said that now, the higher-education was at the mercy of non-academicians and the present government was marginalising and sidelining the academicians. The government was deviating from the path of providing good, qualitative and low-cost education to people and privatising institutions in indecent haste, he alleged. Mr Gasso said the Haryana Government planned to withdraw the grant-in-aid in a phased manner provided for the maintenance of private colleges. Mr Gasso asked the state government not to make such a proposal as it would tarnish the image of the welfare state. He urged the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala to restore the dignity and honour of the teachers in the state by accepting the union’s demands.
