HPSEB draughtsmen
leave union Solan, August 22 The decision to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting of the engineering drawing staff’s body held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Nirmal Prakash Nayer, the seniormost serving draughtsman of the HPSEB. Differences between the two trade unions arose on account of what the draughtsmen termed as “the indifferent attitude of the union towards the demands of their cadres. Mr S.N. Sood and Mr D.K. Subathu
SCA seeks release of grant Kumarhatti, August 22 The SCA was contemplating passing a resolution and submitting it to the MP requesting him to take steps to get the grant released immediately, failing which they would take the matter to streets. Colonel Shandil had announced the grant from his MP fund. Numerous reminders, telephonically as well as in writing, to the MP by the college authorities in this connection were of no use, sources said. Dr O.P. Dogra, Director, GGDSD College, HP, told this correspondent that on the advice of Colonel Shandil, he had contacted the district authorities for the release of the grant. The district authorities, in turn, advised him to contact the Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, who was supposed to be a liaison officer with respect to this grant. The Deputy Commissioner informed the college authorities that he had not received any letter from the Government of India regarding the grant. Local leaders of the HVC, the party to which MP belongs, expressed ignorance about the sanctioning of the grant at any level, lamented Dr Dogra. |
Shop employees resent denial of day off Hamirpur, August 22 Under the HP Labour and Commercial Establishments Act, Sunday or any other day in the cantonment areas of the state is to be observed a holiday by the trading community. However, this order is being violated with impunity in the district and the worst sufferers are the employees. These employees find it difficult to air their grievances as the owners have their say with the Department of Labour, which is there to protect the interests of the poor employees and the workers. A large number of employees working in the town said they were being harassed by their employees and that the Department of Labour was not taking any action to protect their rights. A visit to Hamirpur town showed that shops open much before 9.00 a.m. and close only after 8.00 p.m. |
