Gurdaspur, December 24
The new multi-storey judicial complex, coming up at a cost of Rs 42 crore, that was scheduled to be completed by December 31 will now see the light of day by mid-March.

A high-level delegation of the Building Committee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court visited the town today and inspected two of the proposed sites. The delegation was accompanied by Justice RK Garg, the Administrative Judge of Sessions Division, Gurdaspur, and the then District and Sessions Judge KK Garg.

The judges first visited the present complex which many feel is cramped of space. Moreover, owing to lack of proper space, vehicles are parked in a haphazard manner further complicating the problems for litigants and advocates.

Meanwhile, a majority of advocates have urged the Punjab and Haryana High Court to establish a Single Bench at the Gurdaspur District and Sessions Courts so that hundreds of litigants don’t have to travel to Chandigarh to get their several judicial works done.

Karanjit Singh, senior criminal lawyer, cited the examples of several high courts which had set up Single Benches in important cities for the benefit of the litigants.
