Hi-tech plan to help SBI examinees via phone busted
New Delhi, May 28 The accused had planned to help the candidates by using mobile phones with scanners to email the questions to their "control room" from where the answers were to be relayed to some candidates. The accused are Ravi Atri, a third year MBBS student from Rohtak; Amarjeet and Naval. Atri is the mastermind. The police was tiped-off yesterday that Atri would head towards Rithala from Barwala. "Around 7.45 am, we intercepted the accused in a Santro car," said joint commissioner of police TS Luthra. The police seized some driving licences that had photos of Atri, Amarjeet and Naval, but bore names of other persons. Other items seized from the vehicle were three high-end mobile phones, two Internet data cards, a mobile phone shaped as a wrist-watch, two rolls of tape, seven shirts that had bluetooth devices stitched to them and three ear pieces. "The accused said that they were going to leak the SBI question paper," said Luthra. They disclosed that they operated the racket from a moving car or a house. They used to send "dummy candidates" to the exam hall to scan the question paper. "The accused had fixed a mobile phone on the forearm of the dummy candidate wearing a full-sleeve shirt. A tiny scanner near the camera of the phone was to be used to scan the question paper, which was to be emailed to the accused. They would have then send the answers to their candidates. These candidates were wearing shirts with bluetooth devices stitched to it. The devices were linked to ear-pieces. Also, each candidate was wearing a mobile phone shaped as a wrist watch. These devices appeared as watches, but upon pressing a button, the screen would become the display of a mobile phone. "The candidates were to receive the answers on these devices. Atri is also wanted for leaking question papers of the All-India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination. The exam was conducted by AIIMS on Jan 8 this year. TNS |
