Rs 3,015-cr projects to revamp Ring Road gets Cabinet nod
New Delhi, May 21 The projects would remove obstacles coming in way of smooth flow of traffic as most of the parts on Ring Road and Outer Ring Road would become signal free, said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit after the Cabinet meeting. A stretch of 20 km from Vikaspuri to Wazirabad on Outer Ring Road is going to be redeveloped with construction of three flyovers at Bhalaswa Chowk, Burari Chowk, Mukundpur Chowk, two loops at Mukundpur Chowk for right turn, a six-lane parallel road along drain on other side to be constructed from Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar to Wazirabad Chowk along with flyover to cross the drain and national highway-1 near Wazirabad Chowk. A 3.30-km elevated road from Anandkunj Junction to Mira Bagh T-Junction and 2.60-km elevated road from Som Vihar Chowk to Depali Chowk and another 2.60 km elevated road from Power House Pitampura to ROB at Mukarba Chowk will be redeveloped. The re-engineering of 20-km stretch on Outer Ring Road would facilitate uninterrupted travel resulting in relief to a large number of passengers and residents of Vikaspuri, Janakpuri, Jawala Heri, Paschim Vihar, Bhehra Enclave, Mangolpuri Pitampura, Rohini, Sarasvati Vihar, Prashant Vihar, Badli, Haiderpur, Shalimar Bagh, Mukundpur, Burari, Nirankari Colony and Bhalaswa. The projects have been cleared by the UTTIPEC and DUAC, she said. The project on Outer Ring Road and another project for improvement of Ring Road from Prembaripul to Azadpur would approximately cost Rs 2,485 crore together. The redevelopment would cover a total length of 2.10 km. In order to ensure optimum utilisation of the existing first ever elevated road from Sarai Kale Khan to JLN Stadium the cabinet has now decided to extend it from JLN Stadium to INA to ensure fast and comfortable commuting between East Delhi to South-West Delhi. It will also provide free flow of traffic thereby saving valuable time and fuel. The existing elevated road was constructed as the Commonwealth Games project to provide a dedicated route to connect Games Village near Akshardham Temple and main venue of the Games at JLN Stadium. The existing elevated road would be extended under phase II from JLN Stadium to Aurobindo Marg with connection at Ring Road Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Bhishm Pitamaha Marg and Aurobindo Marg. Its anticipated cost is Rs 530 crore, she added. |
Bill making marriage registration must for Delhiites approved
New Delhi, May 21 While, the Delhi Registration of Marriages Bill 2012 will make registration of marriages mandatory in Delhi, the Amendment Bill in the Indian Stamp Act will help the government collect legitimate stamp duty in case of an increase in the authorised share capital of companies, according to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Once the Delhi Registration of Marriages Bill 2012 comes into force, the law will make registration of all marriages in Delhi mandatory. At present, there is no such law in the country. Non-registration will invoke a fine up to Rs 10,000. After the enforcement of the new Act, every marriage solemnised or contracted in Delhi or solemnised or contracted out of Delhi at any place in the country by a person who resides in Delhi will have to be registered within 60 days of the date of the marriage. The application for the registration of a marriage submitted after 60 days of the wedding will be accepted only on the payment of a late fee as prescribed by the government. The registration can be done in the office of the registrar of marriages in whose jurisdiction either or both parties concerned in the marriage resides or in whose jurisdiction the marriage is solemnised, if none of the parties normally resides in Delhi. If a marriage is solemnised or contracted in a foreign country by Indian nationals (even if one of the parties is Indian and resided in Delhi before the marriage) the marriage will have to be registered. The Bill envisages registration of all marriages, be it under the Hindu Marriage Act, Special Marriage Act or any other Act or marriages solemnised as per any traditional manner. A need for the law has been felt as it has been seen that some times unscrupulous men refuse to acknowledge their marriages, denying the wives rights like maintenance, custody of children or share in property. |
IPL molestation: Appanna denies threatening Zohal
New Delhi, May 21 According to sources, Appanna has denied threatening Zohal. The cricketer has claimed that on the day of the incident, he saw Luke at the hotel lobby where the latter told him that he had had a fight at Zohal’s room. According to Appanna, he went to Zohal’s room to enquire about the incident, but nobody opened the door. Additional Commissioner of Police KC Dwivedi said, "Appanna was at the lobby of the hotel. Luke came down to the lobby after the incident occurred. Appanna walked into an elevator and so did he with a security guard named Vikas Yadav. They went up to the floor, where the room is situated. In the CCTV camera footage, Appanna is walking towards the room with Luke." Appanna said that he had knocked at the door of the room and enquired if his friend was inside. He was told from someone inside that his friend was not present in the room. "He thereafter left. Luke started banging on the door and abusing the people present inside," said KC Dwivedi. He also asserted that Appanna had arrived outside the room for his own purpose and not to assist Luke. According to Dwivedi, Zohal had complained to the police that about four to five persons, including IPL players, allegedly threatened her to withdraw the case. Her fiancé Sahil Peerzada was admitted to the hospital. He was discharged this afternoon. "We made inquiries at the hospital, but no one had threatened her to withdraw the case. Even at the hotel, we asked security guard Yadav, but he denied that the woman was threatened by anyone," said Dwivedi. Luke, who allegedly molested Zohal, has not confessed to the police and nor has he given his statement to them. The police may use Appanna to testify against Luke. |
Siddharth is a nice guy: Sahil
New Delhi, May 21 After learning about the woman's accusations against Luke, Siddharth had tweeted "She was all over me last night and asked for my bbm (blackberry messenger) pin, so if he was her fiancé, she wasn't exactly behaving like a future wife." Sahil today said, "I didn't see her behaving weirdly with Siddharth. I don't appreciate the comment. The tweet he had posted was disturbing and untrue." He also asserted that Siddharth is a "nice guy and a good host. He is a good human being and he respects women. I never expected him to say such a thing about a woman. I am sure he will apologise." When asked about the molestation case, he maintained that there are no plans of withdrawing it and "let the court make its decision". He said that he is a businessman and not an actor or model. "I have nothing to do with the IPL. I have friends in the IPL, including Siddharth," he added. Meanwhile, Zohal's lawyer Rajneesh Chopra said, “Siddharth will be served a legal notice over his comments tomorrow morning." |

Regularisation of land okayed
New Delhi, May 21 The Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, said that the city government is committed to help allottees, from weaker sections of the society under the 20 point programme. Allotment of land for agricultural purposes to weaker sections in Delhi was an important programme implemented by the government in 1970s and 1980s. The issue of granting "bhumidhari" rights to such allottees was discussed in the Cabinet which decided to grant the "bhumidhari" rights to those original allottees and their legal heirs where there has been no change of hands that sale, purchase or any transfer for consideration. The Cabinet also approved the procedure to be followed to grant the "bhumidhari" status to original
allottees at the first instance. |
