Two killed, 6 hurt in road accidents
Jalandhar, May 17 The investigating officer, ASI Mohinder Pal, revealed that the trio, Manveer Singh, Narinder Kumar and Navjot Singh, all resident of Sundda village, were riding a scooter when the accident occurred. They were overtaking a vehicle when the truck approaching from the opposite direction collided head-on with them leaving the three critically injured. Manveer Singh succumbed to injuries, while the two are struggling for life in the Civil Hospital, Nakodar, the IO added. The police had arrested the truck driver and a case of rash and negligent driving causing a death was registered against him at the Nakodar police station. The body was handed over the family after postmortem. In another road accident, an auto-rickshaw driver was killed and three passengers travelling in it sustained injuries when a car collided with the auto-rickshaw on the Jalandhar-Nakodar at Tajpur village. The auto-rickshaw overturned after the mishap, which led to the death of its driver, Gurmukh Singh, a resident of Model House. The injured, Rimpy, Lucky, Dharam Pal and Sunny, all residents of Lambra, were admitted to private hospitals, where their condition is said to be critical. The car driver reportedly sped away from the spot after the accident. The police has registered a case. |

Three arrested in clash over land case
Kapurthala, May 17 Confirming the registration of the FIR under Section 307 of the IPC, SSP SS Mann said the case had been registered on Wednesday night after recording the statement of the one of the injured persons admitted to the Civil Hospital in
Kapurthala. The SSP said three accused had already been arrested, whereas efforts were on to nab the other accused. Mann said three persons had been named in the FIR lodged on one of the victims’ statement, whereas case was registered against several unknown persons at the Begowal police station. He said Daljit Singh had also been named in the FIR. “He is still at large and efforts were on to nab him,” he added. Mann stated that FIR had been registered on the complaint from the Ajit Singh group, while members of the Jai Jagat Joshi group had not recorded their statements so far. Meanwhile, former Bholath MLA Sukhpal Khaira and Sultanpur Lodhi MLA Navtej Cheema visited the Civil Hospital to inquire about the health of the injured. Khaira alleged that a reign of terror had been unleashed on Congress worker Ajit Singh and his three sons by Akali workers, led by Daljit Singh, alias Don. Seven persons had reportedly been injured in a clash over a piece of land. The warring groups exchanged fire. Sharp-edged weapons were also used in the clash. A group, led by Jai Jagat Joshi, reportedly attacked Ajit Singh’s son Sukhwinder Singh, after he began ploughing a three kanal plot, even as Joshi forbade him from doing so as he claimed that he had recently purchased the land. |

A 22 year-old woman, Anjana Devi, resident of Haler village, was killed in a road mishap near T-point on the Pathankot-Dalhousie road here today. According to the police, she was hit by a truck while crossing the road. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital, but was declared “brought dead” by doctors. Body fished out
