Homoeopathic dispensaries neglected
: Homoeopathic dispensaries in Bathinda district continue to be a neglected lot as the Health Department has failed to fill vacant posts of doctors. Of the 17 sanctioned posts, nine are vacant. The dispensaries were opened under the National Rural Health Mission. In the absence of homoeopathic medical officers, pharmacists have been running these dispensaries, sources said.

Blood donation camp:
Dr Ambedkar Naujawan Sabha organised a blood donation camp in which volunteers donated 37 units of blood. Felicitating the donors, Gurdeep Singh Gosha, state chief of Youth Akali Dal Delhi, termed blood donation as one of the noblest deeds towards the service of humanity. Congress legislator Surinder Dawar, Mahila Congress president Leena Taparia, Parveen Dang, Lakshman Dravid and Choudhry Yash Pal were also present at the occasion.

Teachers hold protest rally: Punjabi University teachers on Wednesday held a protest march on the campus against non-release of arrears by the Punjab government and the UGC. Speakers urged the VC to prevail upon the state government to get the arrears released on a priority basis. They expressed concern about overlooking the interests of university teachers by the state government and the UGC.

PDP MLA granted bail: Former Cabinet Minister and present PDP MLA Moulvi Iftikar Hussain Ansari was today granted bail after he surrendered before the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, and sought his bail in view of the non-bailable warrants issued against him.

Man hurt in ‘mysterious’ explosion: One person got injured during a “mysterious” explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, the police said today. Kabir Ahmad Lone (24) got injured when some unidentified explosive material went off at Keran in Kupwara. Lone was collecting mushrooms from a jungle area when the incident happened. He was shifted to District Hospital, Kupwara, from where he was referred to Bone and Joints Hospital in Srinagar.

Boy killed in mishap: A seven-year-old boy of Rajasthan was killed in a road mishap in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today, the police said. A Tata Sumo hit and injured the boy identified as Jagdish Baghdia near Baramulla. Baghdia was shifted to District Hospital, Baramulla, where he died. A case has been registered in this regard.

Man electrocuted in Srinagar: One person got electrocuted in the Nowgam area of the city, the police said today. Mohammad Younus Khatana got electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire while cutting the branches of a poplar tree near the railway crossing in Nowgam. He died on the spot.

Doon Combined clinch title: Doon Combined has won the 60th Dehradun District Cricket League match beating Sports College. Batting first, Sports College piled up 103 runs losing all its wickets. Vipin scored the highest unbeaten 27 runs followed by Kunal who contributed valuable 20 runs to the Sports College’s score.

3 policemen to be honoured: Three police personnel posted in Nainital would be recommended for Prime Minister’s Jeewan Rakshak Medal. The three had played a role in saving the life of a local resident after he had jumped into Naini Lake a couple of days ago. DGP Vijay Raghav Pant has asked SSP Sadanand Daate to send the profiles of constables Vinod Yadav, Sumit Kumar and Deepak Chaudhary to the Police Directorate in Dehradun. They will also be honoured by the DGP during his proposed visit to the town on May 20.

Body found: A body has been found in the Nayagaon forests of Kaladhungi in Nainital district on Wednesday. It is being assumed that the man had been killed by a wild animal. The deceased is yet to be identified. Sources say that he was in his early 50s.

Man run over by bus: A pedestrian was killed after he was run over by a bus in Haldwani on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Vishnu Sharma of the Valleyjeli lodge. The driver of the bus fled the spot after the accident. Vishnu was hit from behind and had died on the spot. The police investigations are on in the matter.

Drive to check illegal quarrying: The police and the administrative authorities in the Dineshpur area of Udham Singh Nagar have launched a special drive to check illegal quarrying. A police team nabbed six dumpers involved in the illegal quarrying and seized three of them on Wednesday. The drivers of the dumpers managed to flee the spot. The dumpers are said to be transporting illegally-mined material.

Woman falls into gorge: A resident of Badet village in the Kapkot area of Bageshwar district died after falling into a gorge. 30-year-old Lalita Devi had gone to fetch fodder when she slipped from a rock and fell 60-feet down into a gorge. She was taken to a Community Health Centre with multiple injuries.
