Trial conducted on laser operated speed radar
Nikhil Bhardwaj

Jalandhar, October 7
The Punjab police has initiated a trial on laser-operated speed radar equipped with digital camera to tighten noose around the traffic violators. The equipment, which is to be launched soon, will be the first ever in the state.

The Jalandhar traffic police has been given the opportunity to test the viability of this equipment and later, depending upon the report of the traffic police, the equipment will be launched in other big cities of Punjab. The traffic police here has already conducted trials of this demo machine at different places of the city.

Diljinder Singh Dhillon, ACP Traffic, said they had initiated trials as they had been asked to submit report in a day or two about the viability or any alterations needed in this equipment. He said in coming month or two the equipment will be launched in the big cities.

He said this technique would help to identify traffic violators as the laser video digital camera of this machine can record images between 35 to 100 meters and can recognise the rule breakers. Its perfect zooming facility with higher resolutions can even penetrate into the glass of vehicles, hence, can capture real images of the driver. Overall, its camera can records images up to the range of 1400 meters, He added.

“Though the demo equipment is good but we will ask the company to make bit alteration in the equipment so that the cameras can clearly record images from 10 meters to 250 meters, which means perfect zooming without any pixel problem,” he said.

This equipment will have an edge over the old speed radar, which could record speed of a single vehicle and was unable to record speed of vehicles in traffic. This equipment can even single out one vehicle from the traffic and can record exact speed of that vehicle.
