Centre not averse to airport in state

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, August 5
The Centre has not yet finalised its plans to construct another international airport
for Delhi at Noida in UP and it can consider a proposal to set up an international airport in Haryana, if the state government offers free land for it.

This was stated by union minister of state for civil aviation Praful Patel at a meeting of the Parliamentary Advisory Committee to his ministry held in Mumbai recently.

Patel was responding to a demand made by two Haryana MPs - Tarlochan Singh and Deepender Hooda - in this regard.

Raising the issue, Tarlochan Singh said London had four airports within a distance of 50 km of each other. An airport in Haryana’s national capital region would be more beneficial to the people of the national capital and northern states rather than the one beyond Noida.

He said the Centre should take a decision on such issues taking in view the people’s convenience rather than to please a particular person. He was obviously referring to the Centre’s desire to please UP Chief Minister Mayawati.

Hooda too supported the demand and said an international airport near Jhajjar would be more convenient for the people of northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Tarlochan Singh told The Tribune that Punjab and Haryana should rise above narrow politics and should join hands in persuading the Centre to set up airports near Jhajjar and Mohali.

Patel reportedly told the Haryana MPs that if their state government sent a proposal in this regard, offering free land for the airport, the Centre would consider its request favourably.

Impostor dupes youths of Rs 10 lakh
Our Correspondent

Rewari, August 5
With the registration of five cases of cheating, impersonation and criminal intimidation under Sections 420, 170 and 506 of the IPC at the Khol police station of the district against the accused, Kasturi Lal Dogra, a self-styled officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and a resident of Jodi Melal area of Jammu district, a CRPF recruitment racket has surfaced in the Ahirwal region.

The cases have been registered on directives issued under Section 156 (3) of the CrPC by the court of the judicial magistrate (first class) here following petitions earlier filed by the guardians of victims.

It is reported that five youths, Anil Kumar, Narender Kumar, Surender Kumar, Dharambir and his brother Sat Bir along with numerous others of the Ahirwal region, appeared in a test, held for recruitment of CRPF constables, at Jaipur in February.

Sources said after the test was over, Dogra, who was then reportedly donning uniform of a CRPF official, met the youths outside the examination hall.

While introducing himself to the youths as a member of the selection committee, Dogra told them that he could get them enlisted in the CRPF if they pay Rs 2 lakh each in advance.

Eventually, a deal was clinched following which Rs 10 lakh was paid to Dogra by the guardians of the youths at Khori village, 10 km from Rewari, in March.

But later when all the five youths failed in the test and consequently Dogra’s firm assurance of getting them enlisted in the CRPF was totally belied, the guardians as well the youths repeatedly asked Dogra to return their money.

However, things went awry when Dogra reportedly refused to return the money and simultaneously also threatened them with dire consequences if they pursued the matter further.

Bishnoi addresses public meeting at Pehowa
Our Correspondent

Kurukshetra, August 5
“Haryana was developed in all sectors, besides law and order had been under control resulting in the state during former chief minister, Bhajan Lal’s regime.”

This was claimed by Bhajan Lal’s younger son, Kuldeep Bishnoi, MP from Bhiwani constituency while addressing a public meeting at Pehowa, 25 km from here, today.

Bishnoi lamented that voters, during last Vidhan Sabha elections, had voted for Bhajan Lal, but Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a non-MLA, was made state’s Chief Minister by All-India Congress Committee (AICC), president, Sonia Gandhi. But with the passage of time, the voters became disenchanted due to short supply of electricity, drinking water, prevailing rampant corruption and deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

“At this juncture, the disgruntled voters had urged upon us ( Bhajan Lal and Kuldip Bishnoi) to fight for their cause. Hence, we had planned to visit all the 90 assembly constituencies to have the opinion before taking a final decision to form a separate independent political party. On Sutlej- Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue, Bishnoi called upon all leaders to unite themselves for the SYL canal issue. He reminded when former Punjab chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh and the Punjab chief minister, Prakash Singh Badal could join hands on this issue then why not Haryana leaders do the same,” he questioned.

Though Bhajan Lal remained present on the dais, he did not address the meeting.

Dharambir Yadav, former minister and Dharam Pal Malik, former president Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) also spoke on the occasion.

Later, while addressing a press conference, Bishnoi said all allegations levelled against his brother, Chander Mohan, Deputy Chief Minister, were false and baseless because their family had never indulged in any wrongdoing.

In reply to a question, Bishnoi clarified that he would not submit his resignation from the Congress Party, because Bhajan Lal’s Congress was the real congress in Haryana.

Though he praised the Indian educated youths for glorifying the name of the country in other countries but criticised the policies of successive Indian governments after independence for neglecting the interests of youths. ‘Next CM will be Punjabi’
Our Correspondent

Kaithal, August 5
After the next Assembly elections in Haryana, the Chief Minister will be from the Punjabi community and the real political power will be in the hands of Punjabis.

This was stated by state president, Haryana Panjabi Morcha, Sant Kumar, while addressing a state-level Punjabi sammelan at Milan Palace, here, today.

Sant Kumar said the Punjabis were politically awakened and after the occasion the political scene in Haryana would change and the Punjabi community would emerge as a strong political power.

He said about 1 lakh members would be enrolled in Panjabi Morcha by the end of this year and in the coming Assembly elections, the morcha would put up candidates in 50 Assembly constituencies where Punjabis were in majority.

The Punjabis were never given a respectable representation in the cabinet and their claim for jobs was also ignored. Due to these reasons Punjabis, who had 60 per cent share in government jobs at the time when Haryana was made a separate state, were now on few jobs and if the present trend continued their share in government jobs would further shrink, he said.

Earlier, Sant Kumar on his arrival at the venue of the meeting was given a warm welcome by hundreds of delegates, who had come from various districts of Haryana.
