Bhajan Lal sulks over Ram Prakash’s appointment
Chandigarh, October 17 The three-time former Chief Minister, who has been retained as the HPCC chief, is apparently not too happy with the appointment of Mr Ram Prakash, a Hooda acolyte, with whom he is expected to work in tandem for running the organisation. To give vent to his feelings, the PCC chief, it is believed, may not turn up at the function at the PCC office tomorrow being organised to mark Mr Ram Prakash formally taking over as the Working President. It is learnt that the Chief Minister, the Transport Minister and the outgoing Working President of the HPCC, Mr Randeep Singh Surjewala, will be present at the function. However, the presence of the PCC chief at the function is doubtful. Talking to TNS today, Mr Bhajan Lal claimed he was not aware of any function being organised at the PCC office tomorrow. “In any case I met my fellow party members at the meeting at the PCC office today”, the Congress leader said. A meeting of members of the AICC from Haryana took place here today and authorised the Congress President, Ms Sonia Gandhi, to choose members of the Congress Working Committee .The event entailed demonstrating faith in Ms Gandhi's leadership. Both Mr Hooda and Mr Bhajan Lal were present at the meeting. The two rivals had sprung a surprise some time ago when they jointly addressed a press conference here on the issue of a rural employment scheme. As it was not a routine press conference, it generated considerable interest in political circles and gave rise to speculation about Mr Bhajan Lal reconciling to Mr Hooda's election as the CLP leader. |
Paddy growers prefer Delhi market
Sonepat, October 17 According to a report, this has given a setback to the procurement of paddy in the markets of Sonepat district. Moreover, the Haryana Government and market committees have been suffering a huge loss of revenue on account of the diversion of large quantity of paddy to the Narela mandi in Delhi. Paddy growers said they were getting Rs 10 per quintal more for their produce in the Narela mandi than the markets in Sonepat district. They claimed that they got the payment on the same day from commission agents whereas in the markets of Sonepat district, the payment was given after 10 to 15 days, causing inconvenience to them. Meanwhile, representatives of various farmer organisations have expressed concern over the slow purchase of paddy by officials of procurement agencies in the markets of Sonepat district. They alleged that paddy growers were being harassed on one pretext or the other when they marketed their produce for sale. They alleged that paddy growers were forced to sell their produce at throw-away prices as officials of the procurement agencies had adopted an indifferent attitude towards them. |
