Stop illegal construction in Mewla Maharajpur: Gurjar
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, October 13
Mr Krishan Pal Gurjar, senior BJP leader and former MLA from the Mewla Maharajpur constituency in Haryana, today alleged that a land mafia had been indulging in unauthorised construction in the Mewla Maharajpur area.

Addressing a Press conference here today, Mr Gurjar said the authorities had ignored the letters written to them by him on the activities of the land mafia. He warned that if no action was taken against the mafia within next 15 days, he would file a petition in court.

Mr Gurjar alleged that a group of powerful and wealthy persons, including the present MLA from Mewla Maharajpur, were constructing large bungalows and farmhouses on forest and shamlat land in the area. They were cocking a snook at state government laws and orders by the Supreme Court debarring any construction on such land. Senior IAS and IPS officers and Congress party members were among those who had been constructioning these unauthorised buildings, Mr Gurjar alleged.

Mr Gurjar also distributed copies of a letter written by him to the Deputy Commissioner, the Divisional Forest Officer and other senior officials of the district regarding the problem. The letter, dated September 7, mentioned a letter written by him in August on the same issue, and urged the officials to take note of the unauthorised construction taking place in Ankhir, Mewla Maharajpur, Anangpur, Lakkarpur, Sarai and Badkhal villages falling on the Surajkund-Badkhal road.

Mr Gurjar, who has been appointed the state convener of the BJP’s silver jubilee celebration programme, alleged that during the INLD’s last tenure at the helm of the state, some interested parties were able to obtain permission for change of land use from the state government and had constructed school buildings on shamlat land in Mewla Maharajpur.

The present government had not taken any action in this case either, he said.

The BJP leader said the Congress had raised a hue and cry earlier about the alleged misappropriation of wealth by Mr Om Prakash Chautala. However, once the Congress came to power, it forgot its promise of probing the wealth allegedly amassed by the INLD supremo and his family members.

Mr Gurjar said the Congress government should order a probe against Mr Chautala or the leaders of the party should apologise to the people if they felt there was no substance in the corruption charges made by them against the former Chief Minister.

Mining contractors, crusher owners up in arms
Sunit Dhawan
Tribune News Service

Hisar, October 13
Stone-crusher owners and labourers unions of the Khanak mining zone have warned the Haryana Government that they would begin mining operations without paying the royalty if the “illegal” activities of the lease-hold contractors were not stopped.

Talking to The Tribune here today, Mr Rajender Kumar Aneja, executive member of the Khanak Dadam Stone-Crusher Association, said the authorities concerned were not taking any concrete action against the leasehold contractors despite sufficient evidence of violation of lease agreement against them.

He pointed out that the Department of Mines and Geology, Haryana, had issued notices for the violation of certain clauses of the lease deed to the leaseholders of Khanak, Dadam, Nigana and Dharan mining zones near Tosham in Bhiwani district.

In the notice, the Director, Mines and Geology, Haryana, had stated that the mining lease granted to them would be prematurely determined and amount of security deposited forfeited “without any further notice” in case they did not remedy the breaches of certain terms and conditions of the lease deed within 30 days from the date of the issuance of the notice.

The leaseholder companies had also got notices for non-payment of dues of the lease amount. The time limit of this notice has expired while the last date for the earlier notice is October 14.

Alleging that the contractors had been violating various clauses of the leasehold agreement, Mr Aneja demanded that the lease be cancelled and a CBI inquiry instituted in this regard. He asserted that if the lease was not cancelled by October 18, they would resume mining operations without paying “illegal” royalty to the leaseholders.

The stone-crusher owners association has also attracted the attention of the Bhiwani district administration towards the alleged illegal mining by M/s Baba Mungipa Mines and Minerals Company.

In a letter written to the Bhiwani Deputy Commissioner, the association has alleged that the company had restarted mining activities and was extracting minor minerals without installing any weighment bridge in collusion with staff members of Mining Department.

Following this ultimatum of the crusher owners and labourers unions, the situation in the Khanak mining zone has become volatile once again and may take a violent turn if effective measures are not taken in this regard.
